Newcastle Match Thread

Don't put this down to Evans. These are good professionals that were.....er not very professional. There was far more wrong with us than one defender who didn't play.
Agreed it’s more than just missing evans but you don’t have to be Einstein to know it was bloody massive. Fofana & soyuncu’s displays were disgraceful. They never looked like they had played center back in their lives it was that shocking.
If those 2 play in any game without evans from now till the end of the season we are going to be embarrassed

This is on Rodgers. Losing Evans was clearly a killer but setting up with Castagne in a back 3 in a position he has never ever played in when you have better options on the bench AND you could switch to a back 4 was madness. Castagne was playing right back regardless. Gave Ricardo no space whatsoever and Castagne was playing in Maddisons position when the 1st went in. He had him and Albrighton out of position against Newcastle. Actual on the beach Newcastle. Shambles and he is to blame.

I couldn't agree more.

For the sheer ineptitude and lack of football nuance these last two games
are the worst I have seen in all my years
I was humiliated by our lack of effort and
it's a damn good job it was in an empty stadium because it would have caused a lot of acrimony and derision amongst fans I have seen us worse on many occasions but we were out of our depth
against better teams, but last night and the Saints game against 10 men has shown me that we lack fibre and without that and fight you are left with no basic principle for any sport let alone football. I do feel desperately sorry for all our fans as so much delight was delivered early in the Season only to fall down badly in the latter stages, please do not blame our injury record as all teams go through this only the better and the wealthier come out the other side.

Problem is anyone who even dares to question the mighty Brendon gets shot down, he’s the media darling.
We are tiny Leicester city who are so lucky to have such an elite a manager and master tactician backed as you can see by fantastic fitness coaches.
He’s the next Gareth Southgate oh what Tottenham bottlespur world do to hate him leading them to a top 5 finish every year

Maybe its just me , but I hate watching us when we play this chess like football, ok its better than the Frenchman but not by a lot. It lacks passion and individual skill, and yes I also like a target man as a plan B for when we play sides at home that park the bus and we need to pump balls into the box. Guess I am to old for the modern game but I am sick of feeling angry after a loss against sides that we should beat and using tactics that bewilder and frustrate me? Dons tin hat:mad:

The loss of Barnes and Justin has reduced our pace and energy so effects the way we have to try and play.
As does the number of games we have played this season.

The Europa League and the cup run have stretched our resources and now, at the business end of the season, we are coming up short.

Last night, Ricardo, Maddison and Vardy all started even though the are all way off their best, we simply do not have like for like replacements that are even close to being good enough, so they had to play. Throw in the confusion at the back, worst defensive display this season, and we were awful, lucky to get away with 4.

If we kept finishing top five that would be consistently very good considering the teams around us.

No real argument there Daz, but we put ourselves in a position to do even better than that in the last two seasons but are struggling to get it done. We simply do not have the player resources to compete at the highest level on a consistent basis.

Spot on Dorset

if you can be the best in the division one day and worst another, its bad organisation.
Have a look at our league seasons. Season upon season we are improving. Take out the league winning season because that was a freak of nature but all the other seasons we are improving.

What’s most annoying for me is that we keep proving the c@@ts right. I hate the CL and everything it stands for. The PL is no better. But I hate losing it just serves to justify the self appointed view of the essence of football.

Why have this mentality if you want to improve you have to strive to do so, look at the fight the barcodes put up last night ....the willingness to run for everything, the

our attitude stinks, l think they think they can just turn up somedays. I saw Caspers and Vardy's faces after the game, they cared, l don't think l saw this in others. Rodgers interview, blaming they're age. People say he's protecting his players, he set them up, they went out with the wrong attitude and after 15 minutes it was clear that we set up wrong again.

NFP's plan was if you need to score, put more forwards on, Rodgers seems to have adopted the same approach. All this does is plays into the team who are sitting back, it also leaves us dodgy when they break. 3 at the back works occasionally, it shouldn't be our M O it should be an option to use when appropriate. We have better players than the majority of teams yet we let them bog us down outside their box and we allow it game after game.

I'm dreading the next 2 games now, I'm fearing total embarrassment at Wembley. The attitude on and off is all wrong.

Spot on Kendal. The only thing I would add is that the warning signs were there even before the Southampton game.
I said in another post we have had either a poor start or a bad 1st half in numerous games recently.
Burnley.
Brighton.
Palace.
West Ham was a shocker in a vital game.
Southampton with 10 men
Newcastle we were flattered with just 2 at HT.
Yet in most of those games, we played better after HT, and that to me dispels the fitness excuse. If we started strong and faded I would accept that argument.
Too many games recently we start with possession, but don't threaten. We play at ' pre season pace'. Not good enough I am afraid, and that's my disappointment because I know we are better than that.

No because half the team will leave unless we show progress, so we couldn’t do that we would just fade away

Typically Callum Wilson has done his hamstring and is now out for the rest of the season.
