Where is the comment on the protest?

Apart from some stuff about how it might affect our CL chances there is little to see about what is a critical moment in pro football.
Six big English clubs plotted to set up an rival league which would have pretty much ruled us and most others out of serious international competition.
There have been no sanctions and it seems to have been left to fans' groups to oppose this with their own actinvity against two of the plotters.
Rest assured thse rich clubs will be back unless something serious is done (they have promised that).
It is time to put local club interests aside and see the big picture as the existential threat for what it is and, most important, kill it off while we still have the chance.
It will be no good worrying about our CL chances if there isn't one....

The only way to punish the so called ‘sneaky big 6’ and the gobshites they somehow manage to let into Old Trafford yesterday is points deduction as heavy fines will not hurt the clubs, knock 12/15 points off all of them before next season and 3/6 off Man Utd straight away after yesterday’s debacle.
I know their is no comparison but I can remember playing for and then managing local football teams in Leicester and if we didn’t fulfil a fixture we had points deducted...

Because there is a lot of sympathy for the cause but you knew that a few hotheads would spoil a protest for a little bit of limelight .....it always happens but the legitimate aim is quite good in the context of ownership by foreign people especially from the goodoldboys who just love the Yankee dollar.

Because if UEFA/domestic leagues punish them too much, they'll just go ahead with the ESL anyway.
The punishment has to be strong enough to make them think twice, and not strong enough to make them walk away.

There are two issues here:
1) How to punish the ESL clubs? I think a one year ban from Europe would be fitting, because that would punish them in a football sense, and also financially. And, after all, it was the Champions League they were planning to abandon, at least initially, to set up their own comp
2) How to change the governance structure of European Leagues, to promote more even competition, hence more exciting domestic matches, hence more entertainment for spectators?
Here, the problem is the combination of the distribution of Champions League TV revenues, and FFP. This leads to the Bundesliga being ridiculously uncompetitive, despite the famed governance structure of fans owing a majority stake, Bayern having won the last nine titles. In Spain, La Liga reverted to a more evenly shared TV revenues model for domestic football in 2016/17 (following government legislation). This is one of the reasons Barca and R Madrid are in the financial mire now, but the big 3 still earn far more than the rest via a combo of league position, plus continuous CL participation at quarter final or better.
So, really, UEFA need to change the revenue sharing model for the CL and EL. Instead, they are bringing in changes to make the revenues earned even more lopsided, in favour of the big clubs.
So their punishment for the ESL 12 should be to revoke the planned changes to their comps from 2023/4, and significantly widen the participation (fewer places for the big 5 leagues, more for the smaller leagues), and weight the revenue distribution more to qualification than to performance.
Can't see it happening, sadly

Because the comfy furniture at sky (Neville/ carragher/ keane) all excused the behaviour. Basically saying it was for the greater good.

I suspect The FA have lawyers involved to see what sanctions they can do. It has to be 100% water tight, any holes and the 6 clubs will get away with it.

This will take time. Any sanctions will be in place for next season.

I’m just watching ITV news. They just interviewed an elderly couple who went down today for their own peaceful protest and see what’s going on.

Fair play to them.

Many thanks, Bradnor for an informative and reasoned analysis.
Yes, there is an international and European dimension as their governace was challenged but they also tried to undermine the EPL.
So why can't they be points deducted for next season? SheffW were.
Yesterday fans demonstrated a glimpse of their power and if that was spread to other games where these clubs were on the same pitch it would really make the authorities sit up.
The media are in their usual kneejerk reaction mode by attempting to divert the issue into that of a few hotheads
but we must, as fans and the real custodians of our game, see through this to the big picture...

Any punishment should not punish the fans so this rules out points deductions, bans from europe etc.

Financial punishments would be like pissing in the wind - so not sure what is left except to ensure it can't happen again in the proposed format they put forward

It will resurface and all we can hope for is that the closed shop element is no longer there

But failings at boardroom level have got many a club in trouble which in turn have effected the fans. Bury/Bolton/ sheff Wednesday/Birmingham to name but a few. Those fans didn’t deserve it & this is the problem, it’s not a level playing field.

Should not punish the fans?

It's the fans that caused this.
Fans are ALWAYS punished by the FA, Administration affects the fans, TV switches affects the fans, lots of things affect the fans.

Why should the fans of certain clubs be immune?

Players and fans have been punished when clubs go into administration, don’t see why the powerful should be treated differently.

The fans caused this? How?
I thought it was a group of owners conspiring to effective capture the game and turn it into a commodity designed to generate more money.
Honestly, they did not include me.
And why does a points penalty punish fans? The fans in question follow clubs who take for granted all the success financial
advantage gives them. I didn't see any of them bleeting about that over the years...

If we had a pitch invasion and protest, For whatever reason, and got docked points, the fans who ran into the pitch would be singled out.

What's the difference here?

What's happening in the media is they all know the big clubs should be punished.
But they've been blowing smoke up their arses for 20+ years, they're afraid to bite the hand that feeds them (interviews, gossip, etc).
Some of them speak from the heart, others don't want to get fired and speak from the wallet.

I'm sure that the odd individual will be jumped on as that is how society works.
You will always have idiots who lack self or group discipline but they who rule and their compliant media must learn that protests
are ours to decide upon manage and their rules do not apply.
A general rule is that what makes them squeal the most is what we need to repeat until some sort of sanity returns to our game.

There has to be a points deduction, one for Manchester United failing to secure their ground and surrounding area on a matchday, two for having a game postponed as a result and three bringing the game in to disrepute.
