This ere rail strike then.

Yes! How many billion given to their mates fraudulently?
Needs to be paid for.
Millions spent on nightingale hospitals that were a waste of time.
Plenty of money for those white elephants but don’t you dare ask for a pay rise.
What has this to do with the claims of the RMT.

Billions?

Really?

The RMT following the same path as Scargill.

If you don't learn from the mistakes of history then you are destined to repeat them

Turning this round. Your argument requires employees earning above an arbitrary figure to stick on that level until some arbitrary point in the future when everyone is at the same level. Sounds quite radical and I suspect popular with certain extremists - not sure that’s where you want to be (I could be wrong!)
I think choosing the time for a fight is more relevant. It looks increasingly like the unions are sensing a weakness in the current government and their claims are more to do with political aims rather than for the benefit of their membership

Everyone deserves a fair wage but this is turning into a Willy waving competition and everyone is going to lose out long term

So because the government wasted millions it’s OK for everyone else to do the same?

Sort of, he’s being a cunt so I’ll be a bigger one

The Govt are claiming we can't afford it, but they can when they want to.

This isn't just about money. People are fallig into the Tory press trap, ooh look how much they earn, aren't they greedy. It's also to do with peole's terms being changed, pension rights being changed. If people don't stand up for themselves they start with this then keep chipping away at worker's rights.

What proposals have the employers put forward?

What has it got to do with the government?

Well the Government are urging private firm not to give pay rises this year and expects workers in said firms to take real term wage cuts.
If it’s nowt to do with them then they should mind their own fucking business. Or as a typical Tory you want them to hunt with the hounds and run with the hare?

Common sense when inflation is getting worse, nothing to do with politics. But of course it’s best to ignore the fact that the railway needs big subsidies due to lack of customers

Yeah let’s ignore the fact that the foreign railway owners have been fleecing British customers for years to prop up their home railways, giving cheap fares to their own people. All the while getting government handouts from us. Let’s ignore that shall we

You’re talking politically motivated bollox I’m sorry I bothered to reply to you.

Our chum from Coventry has fallen into the trap set by the RMT. They’re trying to turn an industrial dispute into a political crusade which is unfair on the public at large and is downright unfair to their members. We all deserve a fair day’s pay but we don’t deserve to be pawns in the political ambitions of a few with greater interest in their own ambitions than representing the long term interests of their membership

It’s unfair and I’m going to sqweem and sqweem and sqweem until I’m sick.

You think the Govt aren't involved in any way? You're more naive than I thought. I'm sure there's plenty of information for you to find for yourself but I'll help you a bit. I'm sure some will say these aren't facts but it explains why they are striking

You believe what you want to, the railway companies are not controlled by the government. Network Rail is a nationalised body but has autonomous management.

Network Rail has to cut down on the subsidies given to it by "This Tory Government" (us). It has to come into the real world and accept that the negotiated conditions of the past are no longer viable we have all moved on. As far as I can see Network Rail haven't actually made any proposals but the RMT seem to be anticipating what will happen

No one likes change and if Network Rail are trying to change agreements for existing staff then that is wrong, but new employees have to accept similar terms and conditions to the rest of us.

Out of interest one of the accusations of the RMT is that the rail industry will attempt an internal "fire and rehire" process. If so do you see that as changing existing staff agreements or "new" employees having to accept similar T&Cs to the rest of us?

Fire and hire is never acceptable even if it is done through the proper process of redundancies where redundancy pay can be a form of compensation. A lot of the workforce were in place during BR days, when they were "transferred" to their new employers they were able to keep their existing terms and conditions.
It's a very messy situation, it is important that people have the actual facts and not a version of the truth that suits the agenda of either side

If you were/are on more than the national average would you be happy continually getting lower than inflation rises year after year?
At what point would you stand up for yourself? When those in greater need have caught up?

If there was no mitigating circumstances, then no I wouldn't be happy, but then with these ongoing unprecedented events, then everyone is affected.
I stand by the fact that rail workers are on very decent salaries, and the cost of living won't bite them as hard as other far lower paid sectors.
