What was that all about? Just couldn't get into it as a kid, the goons were before my time and I've seen it later and don't find it funny, I've got a gsoh but it's lost on me, Spike Milligan not funny just stupid, is it just me?

I loved them,my first memories of comedy was hearing my dad laughing his socks off at Michael Bentine, watched it with him and i was hooked, each to his own.

Milligan’s book Adolf Hitler My Part in his Downfall is hilarious, I read it on a bus from Leicester to St Ives and I was laughing out loud.
Wonderful,in part Two he describes when training to fire howitzers how all the gunners would shout “BANG” out loud to save on firing actual shells.
His tv series Q,Q5,Q6 and “There’s A Lot Of It About” were very funny. Curry and Chips was a failure!

Michael Bentine wrote more comedy material for others then ever he performed himself. As did Eric Sykes.
Bentine was involved in the liberation of Bergen-Belsen in 1945 during his war service. He said of this experience,
“Millions of words have been written about these horror camps, many of them by inmates of those unbelievable places. I’ve tried, without success,to describe it from my own point of view, but the words won’t come.To me Belsen was the ultimate blasphemy”.

Also "the world of Beachcomber", funny but not so popular

“What are we gonna do now,What are we gonna do now”!
Good shout also for John Bluthal,Bob Todd and David Lodge(of Cockleshell Heroes film fame, relentlessly teased about that by Spike).

I thought it was rubbish, I really did, but I did like the clangers, strange...
then moved onto Leicester city and my world -in all honesty- changed forever.
the best roller coaster ride anyone could wish for .
