Recent Gigs

Blue Roofer
I had a busy weekend.

Henning Wehn the German Comedian at Southend on Friday. I’d seen a couple of his pre tour shows in London where he tries out new material but this was the first time seeing a whole show. He was good, he spoke quite a bit about Brexit (what else!!).

Saturday was my first proper gig in Leicester this millennium!! Shed Seven at Leicester Uni didn’t disappoint. It was great, a small enough venue, a good crowd and a very decent band. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Monday was the best of the bunch though, Stereophonics at Shepherds Bush Empire. They did Just Enough Education to Perform which is such a dark album and they certainly played it as such. The stories Kelly told about their lives at that time doing world tours, hanging out with Oasis, The Who and U2, the drink, the drugs. The music was brilliant. It was a truly epic gig.

I have no more gigs planned now till Wolf Alice in January.

Someone on a Reytons group on Facebook posted a link to a recent gig of James. It looked quality and I was shocked at the amount of folk at the gig. Looked like they were having a great night.

Last week decided to have a 2 night break for the Southampton game & took in The Darkness last Tuesday in Guildford. They were superb, Justin Hawkins is amazing, definitely the modern day David Lee Roth.

Next up for me The Sweet at Rock City, sadly Limehouse Lizzy have pulled out as the support band

Fancied the Sweet gig, but it ain’t really the sweet, more of a tribute act. Still think it will be a cracking night

I had a New Model Army double header at Rock City a week last Friday and Saturday, Wargasm at the Shed on Monday last week, where we were at least 30 years older than 90% of the audience, a band from Belgium called Whispering Sons last Thursday in Birmingham, (a cross between Nico and Joy Division) a band called Broken Links last Friday in Stourbridge ( a mix of Muse and The Chameleons) and Ist Ist on Saturday in Nottingham (Interpol/Editors style). A week off this week, then Myles Kennedy on Monday in Birmingham, The Chameleons in Manchester on the 17/18 and Desperate Journalist on the 19th in Birmingham. Finally for the year Balaam and The Angel in Birmingham on the 28th

A bit of a Weller overload there Wints.

I saw him once in Finsbury Park for his A Lazy Sunday Afternoon gig. It was a great line up and he was good. I wouldn’t mind seeing him again.

Ocean Colour Scene in Brum would be good too. I saw they were playing The Roundhouse in Camden but it’s this weekend, I have something on this Saturday up in Harborough and it’s a bit too close to Christmas for comfort given Covid.

My gig going has now come to a halt having been hit with Covid after the Myles Kennedy gig, So ive had to miss The Chameleons double header. Desperate Journalist had already cancelled their gig as two of them have it as well. I was expecting it to happen at some point even being double jabbed, with the current spread Covid and most of the gigs being pretty full.

Peter Hook & The Light
IDLES
Echo & The Bunneymen
Black Country New Road

All due in the first few weeks of the new year, likely to be rescheduled again.

Dexys as they are now known should be a treat. Mick Talbot with them these days?

one of the pluses of 2021 was getting back to gigging again, managed to get to four shows
Steve Hackett - Friars, Aylesbury
Jethro Tull - Waterside, Aylesbury
Wishbone Ash - The Stables, MK
Mostly Autumn - The Stables MK
Hopefully we'll be able to attend all our planned shows in 2022.
