Is Johnson culpable ?

Today’s report seems pretty damning regarding Johnson’s reckless negligence in ignoring scientific advice and delaying the lockdown last September for 6 weeks whereby costing thousands of lives .
Be interesting to see if court actions follow from bereaved families .
In any other walk of life I am sure he would have had to resign immediately and possible charges of corporate manslaughter may have followed ?
Watch this space .

I’m not interested in nonsense about hoaxes or conspiracies . The point is according to this report , avoidable deaths occurred directly due to Johnson ignoring all his scientific advice . Is he responsible and what sanctions should follow ?

Purely legal points of view welcome

He is culpable alright, but not for the reason you say.

He is culpable for the deliberate cull of the elderly and the infirm, mostly in the care homes, that kicked the whole thing off.

I wonder in how many walks of life you could make decisions that kill more British people than the Blitz and get away scot free ?

Of course he’s culpable.

Just look at his attitude in the weeks leading up to it:

Take it on the chin
Let the virus run through the country
Shake hands wherever I go
Keep the economy open while other countries were shutting theirs
Keeping the borders open while others were shutting theirs

If only it was that simple. During the summer period the Covid figures had reduced to very low levels because of a lockdown. In the meantime the economy was by each and every day going more tits up. Johnson was under pressure from thousands of businesses to reopen as quickly as possible to save them from ruination. When they reopened and rates started to increase, they introduced the tier system, but it failed to keep it in check. Ultimately there was a balancing act to deal with. Personally I think they were slow in introducing another lockdown, but not by 6 weeks.
These were massive decisions to make, mistakes were made, but the whole situation is unprecedented in our lifetime and there was no obvious blueprint to deal with a fast moving and unpredictable pandemic.

Let’s not forget the opening 5 cobra meetings he failed to attend .

I wonder if the fact he is now on holiday the day the report is released , in the luxury hacienda owned by a guy he awarded a peerage to is a coincidence ?

What has happened to the party that even if you didn’t vote for it , had some people at the top who you could at least respect ?

Was late on the Delta variant too.

The report looks damning . From a Parliamentary committee headed by Tory MPs .
Sadly the country’s political system is in such a terrible state with no leadership and a government driven by greed and corruption. With little credible opposition the swines will continue to get away with their dangerous incompetence .
We will continue to lurch from disaster to disaster.
We are truly fucked I’m afraid .

It would have helped if we had had a credible parliamentary opposition at the time to hold them to account.
I see Matt Hancock has fallen into a nice new high profile UN job with responsibility for something that he has no experience on.

Good point. Not to excuse that but there has been literally been something every 2-3 days for the last 18 months which means attention gets deflected.

It seems that no-one can be bothered (not even the media). to stitch all those things together & suss that most of what’s being used to deflect is because of a lying, incompetent & corrupt govt.
