Great News

Why on earth would anyone want Bruce as manager ?
He’s won bugger all as a manager……….
Hang on , manager of the month last April , how stupid of me to forget that.

When we won the League, we were restricted in subsequent seasons by FFP.
We literally were not allowed to increase our wage structure beyond a certain threshold. Pricing us out of accessing the best players.
I can't see how Newcastle can do any differently, for a few years yet?

Landlord in my local recons they’re going to be able to buy whatever/whoever they want for 3 years WITHOUT financial fair play! Is this true? Anyone else heard/read that?

To fall within FFP rules, they have just short of £200m they can spend over three years. Thanks to the profit Ashley has left them with, plus his investments in the Academy and current income streams.

But aren't they still subject to the wages restrictions? Which can only increase incrementally each year. Unless that has been scrapped?

If anyone thinks access to all this cash is going to lead to success (i.e. Geordies broadly), then they need to give their head a wobble.

Firstly, a manager willing to take this all on.

Next, if they want a player, they’ll have to pay over-the-odds, considering selling clubs know there’s a fatter bank balance in the background.

Thirdly, turning whichever global megastars they buy, into a team that actually wins things.

I’d imagine Newcastle’s new owners will want success fairly pronto, otherwise the manager will get it in the neck.

And the process starts again.

It might be fun to watch…

Scrapped 2019

Yes, Because Ashley's not spent any money for the last 4/5 seasons Newcastle are well in credit ,it shouldn't kick in for at least 3 seasons.

Scrapped 2019

Had a feeling there had been a change. Looks like the new rule may be a salary cap at 70% of revenue. Beyond that a "luxury tax", of the equivalent value of the overspend (or even 200%), to be shared out among other clubs.

Peanuts for the Saudi's...

I have no idea how FFP works but Simon Jordan said earlier that they can spend as much as they want over the next 3 years as they have been profitable each season. He said they could spend 1 billion a year if they want to!

It would be funny if they went down this season. Remember they’ve an average side. Saint-Maximin gets injured and they’re buggered. Yes relegation would stop them in their tracks for a bit

it remains to be seen how much they will want to spend, but you've got to assume - for regional pride reasons - it will be super large. good job the takeover wasn't complete before the window shut or they'd prob have ronaldo and messi up there now.

Looks like something out of the Exorcist 👹
