Any Tory lies we'd like to keep off the front pages tomorrow?

interesting, my guess is its covering up a story they don't want us to see.

The trouble is these people are above the laws that we all have to obey. Nothing to do with politics they just do it because they think they can get away with it and make a lot of money as well

And we let them get away with it. Reading some of the stuff it keeps saying “we stress they were not breaking the law” well obviously, because they make the fucking law or influence the law! Some poor desperate sod fiddles a fiver from the social and everyone wants them hung.

What can we do about it?. They all have their noses in the trough. The only ones that aren't are the ones who are too thick to cotton on to the scams.

(with a very few honorable exceptions)

Bar a revolution I’ve no idea, just give up I guess and hope there’s something left in the trough when we get to it.

20% of funding for political parties comes from 10 people . Truly a bought democracy .

If the Labour Party didn't receive Union funding, they would have only received around £360K at the last Election.
Against the Tories £19.3M.

I don't really see your point there. The unions give to the Labour party and get considerable influence on it. Very similar for both Parties

The point being that the Labour Party receive relatively little in funding from individuals and companies.
The original point being about how funding from a small number of individuals is counter-democratic.
Whereas funding from Unions, which are in turn funding by millions of citizens - is a slightly more democratic source of income.

Well opinions vary about the unions being democratic (Based on 5 years as a shop steward and lay delegate in the T&GWU) but I take your point. The question is how much influence do these people have (quite a bit otherwise they wouldn't do it) and how much can it be proven.
Do they do it to keep Labour out or keep the Tories in?
And it's in neither of the major parties interest to stop it

Unions are democratic. The Labour Party was set up pretty much as a political wing of the unions. They go hand in hand (or at least they did) There is a massive difference between Unions or the leaders of the Unions who have been democratically elected by its hundreds of thousands of members influencing policy of the party that represents them to a rich individual donating to a political party to curry favour, protect their individual assets, receive a peerage or a government contract.

A Party donor will always be looking for a return.

Remember the JCB digger, smashing through a polystyrene wall, with the huge "Get Brexit Done" slogan.

JCB have donated £2.5m since BJ became PM.

Or the BBC Chairman. He has donated £400K to the Tories. Was BJ's advisor when he was Mayor of London. Worked with Sunak on some Covid-19 stuff. A former Director of the Centre for Policy Studies. He was appointed to the BBC, just after Tory Councillor Tim Davie, who became the Director-General.

Rotten to the core...

i don't think the russians give two hoots about either of them being in power.

they simply want to keep open their money laundering route (see today's news for how much property they have purchased using offshore, undeclared, money sources - and then see the tory response that they will do something about it "as soon as parliamentary time allows"); and they want to keep disrupting western countries, which they are doing spectacularly.

Go on Adamus. You’re one tiny step away from saying that Governments don’t matter. It’s the establishment Cabal that runs the show.
You can do it 😄👍

Dicky In my experience the leadership elections are anything but democratic, at a local level where there is a show of hands and it's all open it seems to be OK. The political levy used to be an opt in option, now it's an opt out which needs renewing every year, it's strictly within the law but it's fucking sneaky

Most unions used to be a closed shop. Little story about the political levy. Many years ago when that bitch introduced it. A shop steward I knew really well, nice guy but an out and out Tory and Thatcher supporter was in a debate telling those that had elected him not to drop out from paying the levy. Very very vocal, I spoke to him afterwards because he was very much a Tory and he explained he reasons. Something and someone I’ve admired and took on board through life. He said regardless of who is in power you need a strong opposition to challenge back and hold those with the power to account. That way you will always get some balance.
It’s even more sneaky for those that opt out the governments private pension scheme that they have to opt out every year in my opinion…

I never really minded the closed shop I think big companies need a body to negotiate with and I agree about balancing the political landscape, I just wish unions would be less politically focused and concentrate more on looking after their members
