Worst. Gig. Ever.

Lingers Long On Cank Street
10CC In 1974. I was found asleep behind some curtains at the back of the auditorium afterwards. Went there when they started playing a song I’d never heard before, after starting with the endlessly shit ‘Wall Street Shuffle’. Would still be there if they hadn’t broken up.

Seen some crap over the years, but without doubt 1974 Torquay town hall (on me holls) Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel. Only band iv'e ever seen that didn't have a guitar player, boring as hell.

Cockney Rebel came on for The Sweet at the Percy Gee when Brian Connolly took a header off the stage at the previous gig on the tour. Mostly Psychomodo stuff. It was like watching Glen Hoddle sing, without efefefefefChrisWaddle.

I was working at some music awards once and as I was walking down the staircase there was a bloke and a woman standing to one side as i walked past i heard him say, don't they fucking know who I am. There was loads of musicians there that were icons of their era so I was intrigued to know who the bloke was on the staircase that was fucking fuming that no one knew who he fucking was.

It was Steve Harley, and no, no one knew who the fuck he was.

Confirms my impression of them Channy.
A few years back Harley had a radio program playing stuff he thought we should be listening to and slagging off bands people were listening to...in particular Boston who most weeks he had a go at. Musical snob and prick. Jackie your story sums him up perfectly.

Eurythmics at the Electric Horse December 81. They'd just binned The Tourists & were touring their first album. There was hardly anyone there, the sound was awful & 'Dave & Annie' had left their charisma on the tour bus. Left 3 or 4 songs in & trudged through the snow for a couple on Churchgate before Etchies.

Teardrop Explodes at De Mont. Julian Cope was off his face on shit and didn't have a clue where he was or what he was doing.

Last time I saw Steve Harley at the Birmingham Symphony Hall he had a massive rant at one of his fans for taking a photo of him...

And the worst band I saw...Goldie looking Chain, they were gash.... supporting the very good Feeder

Elvis Costello around 7 or 8 years ago
Always wanted to see him. Wish I hadn’t bothered, the mrs fell asleep couldn’t blame her it was dire

Sounds like Costello has the same mindset as Harley. Came across as a pompous prick

The Slits at some shit hole in Derby

I actually did like them so perhaps just a bad day for them

And Linton kwesi Johnson at little theatre I think

Someone dragged me to see Gallagher & Lyle in Liverpool in the late 70's. Did not enjoy them, but the support was Judy Tzuke, who I'd never heard of at the time, who was excellent.
