I know someone who works in womens football. When you take into account things like the enormous number of free tickets involved, general pricing and other "incentives", and the widespread use of creative counting, it's not quite that unbelievable.
One of the main reasons for overstating the attendances – beyond general promotional feelgood purposes – is that all business plans submitted to 'win' places in the league(s) had to include guaranteed average attendance figures, failure to achieve which is regarded as failure to comply with the league T&Cs.
Turns the old 'understate the crowd to save on tax' policy right on its head!
 
Oh, and I forgot the special rule that the 'attendance' includes every single person who goes into the ground on matchday, for whatever purpose, for however long. So the pre-match choir of 50 gets included, along with every volunteer steward, etc.

How should ST be counted then?
A season ticket gives you entry to every home game, your either count it towards every home game or …….?
That seat has been purchased whether someone is sat on it or not.

Maybe count how many people are in the ground. I think that's the usual definition of attendance.

On a slight change, when I was in the long queue in Club shop ( is it still referred to as that ) pre match Saturday I noticed they were selling LCFC women's scarves. I've no interest in women's football ( fair play if anyone has ) but when I buy a scarf in future do I have to insist it's only a LCFC mens scarf!!!?
