I didn't mention banning private schools that wasn't in the title.

I do think the VAT should apply to the fees though. People going down that route are paying for a "Value Add" service.

I probably agree, until this all came to light I just assumed there was VAT on the fees, but you could argue that because they are paying tax into the system which includes paying for schools that isn’t fair.
I assume that the schools can reclaim VAT on their expenditure

Private schools have been increasing fees over and above inflation for years.

They will be able to reclaim some expenses. They could make efficiency savings if they wanted to. Yet the parents don't half moan.

Most people would moan if something went up 20% without getting something extra for their money.

If 20% of these pupils are moved to state school that will be 100,000 more kids without any extra funding - I imagine that will cause some moaning as well.

Probably the best thing is to rejoice at the thought of other people being taxed and taxed and then taxed a little more, usually by a government that you don't support.
