VAR

This is the 4th season we’ve had it in the PL. I think most of us agree to it on paper, but the way it’s being managed is getting worse. It’s an over complication of something simple. They’re so worried about missing something by a millimetre that they’re missing the bleeding obvious. I cannot believe that considering there are so few refs that the inconsistency is so bad. It really can’t be that difficult. Other countries don’t seem to have this problem. The PL need to step in and sort this out.

What I don’t get about offside is that all players these days wear gps trackers on their backs. Why aren’t the autorities linking those to the goal line decisions triangulation points to measure offside? Only decision then is when is the ball played…

Wouldn’t work cos the offending point is more often than not a knee or a shoulder or toe.

Under the current rules I agree, but if the rules were changed to be based on the gps tracker then it would work. Just takes away the apparent guesswork and arguments over line thickness etc.

GPS trackers are no where near accurate enough to work out offside, try using google maps on your phone to see where you are and it will show you you’re within about 5 yards of where you’re standing!

The numbskulls at VAR thought the goal had been given so indicated review over. Hilarious if it wasn’t tragic

Then clubs would fuck about with the location of the tracker on the shirts to gain an advantage. Good idea but wouldn’t work in reality.

Edited to add can’t it be like Hawk Eye with several cameras images being pooled together to create a 3d image that will clearly show whether a player is offside or not? Trust the technology. It might cost a few quid though, much better to employ a few corrupt chaps who all work together to do it manually.

Anyway everyone can see how this will pan out. Liverpool will make a formal complaint and changes will be made for the better. Except LiVAR pool have been one of the beneficiaries so far and they’ll be disadvantaged by these changes.

That's exactly how it worked in the world cup..."semi autonomous". I can't recall any controversy's with offsides, but the PL owners voted against adopting it.
