Value for money...bang for buck

Watching the last couple of games and revelling in the team we are becoming, it was striking the incredible value for money within the squad....and in that beer-hazy post match glow after Chelsea I tried to pick not my MoM (too many candidates) but instead who represented our biggest value for money signing.

Extraordinary that one can compare Albrighton as a free transfer, with Little Wes at around £30m+ - and argue who represents a bigger bargain... (with Evans at 3.5m and JJ at 8m ish somewhere in between.... )

A certain Jamie Vardy springs to mind
Vardy is on 140k a week.
Albrighton 45k a week.
Justin 8-10k a week

Fofana might've cost us 30 million but he's pay only 20k a week.

I know who I think represents the best value for money when transfer fees and salaries are combined this season.

Barnes?

'Free'
Seemingly around JJ's salary level of approx £10k/wk
Significant potential sell-on value with no cut to anyone else

Going on those wage figures we are on for some big new contracts at the end of this season, especially if we qualify for the CL.

How do people know how much individual players are on?

have you seen their payslips? Do you know someone who works at the clubs payroll department? Or are you just guessing?

Using this site as a barometer.

I'm sure its not absolutely 100% accurate but 100% from what we know about Kasper, Vardy and Maddisons recent contract pushes and figures touted it would seem to be pretty accurate.

You can see graphically why we've struggled to get anybody to take Slim off our hands and how thats shackled our club in terms of getting anybody in to replace him.

Be interested to see if the ridiculous amount of money we spend on Kasper works out compared to other quality goalkeepers. For a club ran on such lower budgets his salary alone could be better spent elsewhere I would've said.

Harvey Barnes is on a whole lot more than £10k a week.
Be good to hear your rationale please?
From memory, he hasn't signed any sort of contract upgrade or extension since the deal he agreed before heading out on loan (again) to West Brom in 2018.
I accept that there may well have been step-up clauses in that contract, based around certain numbers of first team appearances etc – all of which is why Spotrac's only ever a rough guide...

Jesus H Christ! According to this, Matty James who hasn't played for us in ages is on roughly the same money as Youri Tielemans if these numbers are accurate!

Lots of other striking imbalances in there.
Personally I'd say YT's numbers are low on there – any record signing is likely to want a commensurate salary to that 'status'. But was James's £26k/wk deal in 2017 much out of kilter with various other loyalty renewals like King, or new signings like Nacho etc?

Kasper on £130k, or De Gea on 2-1/2 times that? Or Pickford's apparent £100k?
I'd certainly say that there is an element of some of the City salaries reflecting what the individuals have done to get the Club where it currently is...

True, but it has implications for the removal of other deadwood.
Well, Slim got one. Presumably any idiot German club wanting Gray would be confident of him getting one before wasting their cash on an airfare and medical. And Ghezzal seems free to play in Turkey. That's the worst of the dead-wood covered...

I think the argument here is in two separate parts. Transfer fee and wages

On both parts we are £ for £ way ahead of many of our so called rivals especially on wages. Arsenal had Özil on £1/3 MILLION per week. Aubameyang is on the same plus all the rest are on massive wages. Even Willian is on I believe over £200k/week
Chilwell cost £45-50M and is on 3 times what he was on with us. Maguire the same.
There’s no doubt FFP plays against us but how much does a player need. Apparently Drinky signed a £110k/week deal for 5 years at Chelsea. Not a lot BUT it works out at over £28 MILLION.
So I’m not worried what some of our higher lot are on but as we’ve seen with Slim it can be an expensive mistake if you get it wrong. I honestly believe that camaraderie is important to any player though in the end. Happy place to work. Is the camaraderie the same at Chelsea. No way. Chilly knows that. Is Drinky happy. I’d say no way but he’s rich. He’d have got £90k at our place but got greedy. It’s a fine difference for a player but all this stuff about going to Chelsea or Manure to win things is bollocks as we know.

Look your average football player has the long term logic of a goldfish - they are competitors - have been from the moment they sign up as schoolboys and if you think money doesn't drive 99% of them then thats madness. You could argue its easy to say on their part that they left because they want long term european football or to play in bigger stadia...all that helps as it covers for them saying I left because I could earn another 50-100k a week because I'm as good as {select any 20 games a season max 'top 6' player} so I deserve it.

Kasper wouldn't get paid any more here than anywhere else - his agent works overtime every pre season and he gets another 5-10k to add to his kitty. We still have a relatively high wage bill compared to 70% of the division and the likes of Praet, Under, Slim, Nacho and even Morgan hold back some of that spending being used lower down the pyramid within the squad or investing in better quality replacements for Vardy long term. I can't see how while Vardy continues to play that we'd ever afford a player wage wise to replace him within a season of arriving unless we make Champs League this season and sadly probably even next due to FFP.

Well - thanks for bringing me down you miserable buggers. This was my happy thread! Take yer deadwood somewhere else.

Blimey I don't post in there...I am still trying to work out whether I am a snowflake, a sheep, gammon, mutton, mutton dressed as gammon, left-wing, right-wing, big government little government cardboard box, rexit brexit or eggsit, fascist or fookin Trotsky. It is all terribly confusing.

Look at it this way you could pay for 11 JJ's for the cost of a Bellerin or 5 Fofana's for a Kolasinac. Bucks banging left right and centre! Happy days!

Like going to the corner shop innit - can I have 2 JJs, a bag of albrightons and a curly wurly guv'nor...

The best free-transfer signing in world football. Every time the media have a debate on the best they always bring in superstars who are refusing to sign a new contract and move to a bigger club for a massive signing on fee and huge wages. Albrighton was released by Villa, he wasn't wanted and we picked him up.
