The possibility of pissing off Spurs fans

All I am saying is that it should be a consideration when we dip our toe into the transfer market/loan signings. It isn't just about the money.

Last summer I was seriously thinking we should bid £80 million on Son. Had Spurs missed out on Europe and had we got Champions League football I thought that amount of money would cover their financial losses of Covid and missing out on the Europa League.

Of course we finished 5th and Spurs sneaked in the back door so that was off the table.

On last Tuesday's evidence, Chelsea desperately need an upgrade at the fullback position. We've got quality young full backs coming out of our ears.

How about a cheeky swap deal, with Werner coming here, and one of our fullbacks going there?

I think Werner would be an excellent long term replacement for Vardy - quick, plays on the last shoulder, natural goalscorer, completely messed up by Lampard playing him wide - a bit like JV when he first came to us.

Get it done JR

werner can't score for toffee. Frank's in the shite if he doesn't come good soon after the money they laid out for him.

To be fair to him, he was about an inch away from scoring a legit goal on Tuesday! There are many worse players to take the piss out of.

Spent £165m on Werner, Chilwell and Havertz.
£36m for Ziyech is a bargain though.
I wouldn't swap any of ours for chelski players, they over spent badly and if their results don't improve then lampard deserves the sack that's why I can't see brenda being interested in being manager there, we are capable at the moment to challenge the top teams in epl, have a fantastic training ground, what a time to be city fan, enjoy. 👍

Replacing Vardy is going to be very difficult, and I think Werner is a strong candidate. I don't see us prising Mane or Son away from their current clubs, and they are in their respective primes, with valuations and wages to match

Werner is 24. He scored 78 goals in 127 games for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, between ages 20 and 23, and he has scored 15 in 35 for Germany. He has a great pedigree. And he is at the beginning of his prime years, not the middle or the end.

Currently, he's at a very low ebb. Chelsea haven't played with an "on the shoulder" no 9 in recent memory, and have no idea how to use one, so he had been very badly handled so far. He is a mismatch in that squad, and not helped by his current rookie manager.

I love Ricardo, he's the marquee player in our current squad. He would be highly valued by any club in Europe. But we have cover for him if he leaves; whereas we don't have like for like cover for Vardy, and we need to acquire it.

So, it's a deal I would do. It takes advantage of Werner's ability being camouflaged by his disaster so far at Chelsea, and would fill the biggest hole in our squad. We give up a great player, but one we have shown this season that we can manage without. Where would we have been without Vardy for 30 matches?

Danny Ings. Head on his shoulders. Own hair on his head. Dannys have done well for us (except Cadamarteri). Ings, as a word to use in threads, is also much better for original jokes than Timo Werther.

full backs wasn't Chelsea problem it was their powder puff midfield.

This thread encapsulates how far we have come in the last ten years. My starting point is usually somewhere on the terraces at places like Carlisle, Bristol Rovers and Hartlepool. But there we are.

I agree with a lot of what Bradnor has said. Especially that Ricci is a world class player. But it looks fanciful. If Mr Abramovic had come on here instead of listening to Lampard and his scouts he would never have entertained buying Chilwell. But he didn't. How likely is he to want to take another full back from us ? Is Werner actually any good ? Is he the new Albrighton, disgracefully disregarded, or is he another player who just cannot adjust to making the switch from one league to a differerent league.

The impression I get is the Chelsea fans think he is a bust, but perhaps that is driven by the belief that Frankie walks on water and does not pick him, despite the vast outlay, and the pressure that brings to pick him, because he has realised this. Frankie's job was on the line on Tuesday, but he picked the totally useless Abraham ahead of Werner. What does that tell us ?

Yes, we must replace Vardy. Do I want to look back in six months time to reflect on lack of action in the current transfer window costing us the title or, worse, a Champions league place ? No. But swapping Ricci for Werner looks panicky. I would give Perez and Barnes the chance until Vardy comes back and get the Vardy replacement over the summer. When we are still stuck with the "no-one can play alongside Vardy" conundrum / nonsense (see Nugent D and Ulloa L). Glad it is not my money, though.

If we get UCL, we should hit Palace with a 40mil bid for Zaha! He would tear it up for us and would allow Vardy to adapt his game in twilight of his career.

I think Werner would be decent for us, I do rate him, but there is no way Chelsea will let him go. Also what wages are Chelsea paying him? They’re pretty likely to be pricing us out of a deal.

We’re nowhere near being able to pay top dollar for any player, financial fair play puts paid to that, but in time it will come, if we want it to.

That's a decent shout Nagerz. But in a city where mardy is still a favourite adjective, it would be interesting to see how Zaha would get on in our dressing room - would be make or break I reckon

Agreed that Chelsea wouldn't actually do the deal, which I did describe at the outset as "cheeky" - but it's fun to speculate

I think the odd cheeky bid for these players with some truth behind them would help to unsettle the oppo a little and give us some good publicity. Raise our profile a little.

I totally agree with this, I think Ricardo will be the one we sacrifice in the Summer anyway.
But I can't see us getting Werner away from Chelsea.

I’m not sure a young potential superstar footballer would leave the delights of the Kings Road for the East Midlands . Unless the flights home from East Mids airport improve.
