The passing from the back last night

What do we reckon?
Ridiculous adherence to Plan A or determined effort to improve?
For me it was mainly ridiculous, the only advantage being we held the ball for a few seconds before giving it away

The sole purpose of last night was to give more players the chance to practice the style that Maresca wants them to play, particularly the likes of Souttar, Coady and Justin. If they'd have responded to Liverpool's press by hitting it long, that opportunity to practice Maresca's style would have been lost - it would have been a complete waste of time. Last night was just a training exercise, and presumably quite a useful one.

Long way to go for a training session imo

Also a wake up call, 'you're doing well at the moment but you'll have to play the same way against a team as good as Liverpool next season'.

Last night showed them the difference between the PL and the Champ for a crap pass.
Liverpool were onto them in a flash and only poor finishing or the woodwork stopped more goals.
In the Champ we've got away with it as the opposition quality level is lower.

May I be the first to say
‘The emperor has no clothes’
Hardly the first - some people have been whining about Maresca’s approach practically since he first set foot in the place. And that’s fine - it would be boring if we all had the same opinion.

Even if we get promoted as champions - which I expect us to - you can guarantee there’ll be some folk still complaining about how bored they are by it all and moaning about ‘passing for the sake of it’ 😉

Probably a few of them at the man city last year as they lifted three trophies...can't please everyone.

Heres a question. Is it because of Maresca's management and tactics that we top the division or is it purely that he has better players at his disposal than the rest of the teams in the division?
When we were relegated to Div 1 nobody proclaimed Pearson's genius it was just expected and some even said it was a gimme.

You mean if we had exactly the same squad and, say, Scott Parker (who was apparently close to getting the job at one point) in charge? I think we’d be doing ok but not as well as we are under Maresca.
