The A-Z Greatest Player Poll - Letter H

mickyhoss

The music was thud like.
A is Albrighton
B is for Banks
C is for Chandler
D is for Dougan
E is for Elliott
F is for Fuchs
G is for Glover

Emile was a local boy, brilliant and put his hand in his pocket to rescue us....but Huth kept us up, rescued Wes and helped him lift that trophy.

Straight choice between Huth and Bruno. Huth is an immortal who will be forever loved and respected. However for me Emile is a local boy who helped us to stay in the PL for 5 years and win 2 League Cups. Went on to play for England many times. But for me it was the £100k he gave to save the club in 2004 which makes him above and beyond. That’s why he gets my vote. Oh and why has Howard got 3 votes out of 12?

That's a difficult one. They all deserve some credit.

Steve Howard for quickly ending our worst period in the dumps of L1,
Emile Heskey for great goals, being part of a trophy-winning team and last but not least reaching deep into his pockets in 2004,
and Robert Huth for being an immortal and the "Berlin Wall".

My head says Emile probably deserves it most but my heart tells me to vote for the "Berlin Wall" from Köpenick and Union Berlin!

If Emile's surname was "Geskey" it would have made two of my votes much easier... or if Robert was called "Guth", for that matter

I never realised Huth was an Ossi and a product of the wonderful Union.

He was born in East Berlin before the reunification, played for a tiny local club (VfB Fortuna Biesdorf) until he was about 14, then played for Union Berlin about five miles down the road for two years, then moved to Chelsea when he was 16.

He is definitely an "Ossi" and was discovered when he played for Union and the German U15. Union was still a 3rd league club then and on the brink of bankruptcy for many years.

Love 'em both, but if Emile hadn't backed us with his own money, where would we have been in the Magic Season?

Very surprised by the current score on this one, tbh. Huth was so crucial to our entire defence – the improvement was instant and obvious.

And his posts were about the only justification for twitter to exist. Eg...

Remember watching international defenders like Jaap Stam and Marco Materazzi being hooked at half time because they couldn’t cope with Heskey’s pace and power. Made us a different proposition at the time.

Remember also the game we thrashed Spurs
3-0. Sol Campbell an England international getting the total runaround by a 19 year old Emile.
