The term was deliberately used during the war on drugs during the Nixon era. They used the name because it sounded Mexican so the average middle class American would support the war on drugs due to their hatred of the Mexicans. Today it’s actually classed as a racist word.

Carry on… I was making the point that I wouldn’t expect anything less from you. Using terminology that you’re told to use without questioning the facts. Hence calling YOU and YOU alone a sausage. I’m sure, even if others didn’t know the “history” of popularising the word marijuana they would have referred to it by it’s none racist, correct term.
