Southampton Match Thread

Need to defend set pieces more effectively, have some aggression and go for the kill. its a home game so i do hope our home form improves -something to work on and build on.

We do need that early goal.
If we can score first in the opening 15 to 20 minutes of matches we are a totally different proposition.
The longer we go without a goal the slower our game becomes and especially at home the oppo just sit back.

Next 3 games will be revealing
Soton
Chelsea
Everton
All contenders for top 4 - 6 points would be a good return

Yes but how many goals have we scored in the 15 mins? that says me that we keep going to find a goal until the final whistle.

I would be far more interested in knowing how many of our famed late goals are decisive, rather than merely adding further to existing comfortable leads or being a consolation effort. That's the real stat, but lazy TV companies rarely dig under the surface. I can't be bothered either, tbh.

I know what you mean. But that's exactly what we got last season in this same fixture - after which our play went rapidly downhill, and we ended up well beaten

Set pieces worry me with them. Our Achilles heal coupled with WP. They are deadly at corners and his free kicks are first class. Must be very careful. Not easy to break down as we saw against Liverpool. Won’t be an easy game.

Kasper
Justin
Fofana
Evans
Castagne
Ndidi
Albrighton
Tielemans
Maddison
Barnes
Vardy
Picks itself really, Soyuncu must be busting a gut for a start, will probably come in if we go to 3 CBs..
Up the City.... 💙

Scoring in 80 minute plus mark as come good for us against
Burnley Home 4-2 we needed 4th goal to take away any nerves
Arsenal away
Sheff Utd away
Crystal Palace away
Man Utd Home

This returned 11 points so pretty good I would say

Likely starting XI think, fitness permitting.

Personally I would start Perez rather than Maddison, but then I have the hump with him at the moment.

Keep him as an impact sub.

Ings tested positive for COVID after the Liverpool game....

Why have you got the hump with him?
He thinks it is all about him.

He slows our attacking moves down whilst trying to make himself look good. He's a good plater, numbers for goals and assists show that, he really could and should be so much better though.

He's just a flair player most flair players are like this. I like him he's not afraid to try something different, but if you hear him speak he's the first one who recognises its a team game. Also he always bigs us up which is great.

Spot on about our playmaker, Daz.
S'ton are on such a run as to be confident. This works for us as we find those who sit in more difficult at the moment, so we'll be fine..:)

Looks like Ings will be available as his self isolation ends on Friday. No reports that he was badly affected. Could even have been a false positive. Anyway, I expect he'll still be a threat. Maybe it's all a ruse to give our defenders a false sense of security.😉

Southampton striker Danny Ings tested
positive for Covid-19 last week, boss Ralph Hasenhuttl revealed on Thursday.

At a news conference, Hasenhuttl said the 28-year-old England international had been self-isolating and could return to training on Friday.

However, Ings is not expected to play against Leicester City on Saturday.

Ricardo & Under both fit and available for the Southampton game, blimey we are nearly back to full strength... 💙

Let's hope that supposition is correct and we don't see: Ings, who came off the bench to hit the 93rd minute winner, had not been expected to feature...

As has been said, a very tough game coming up.
They like us have only lost one away game all season ( very first game of the season)
Very good side with a extremely good manager

Nathan Redmond is also a useful player and one to be respected / watched, when he comes on for his usual last 15 mins, cameo

Nailed on that he'll start then...
