Snowflakes?

Modern diktat requires that younkers share their anxieties, talk about them. In many cases, that involves taking to Facebook and telling half the world what a hard time they are having.
If there’s one thing I’m absolutely certain of, is that youngsters aren’t using FB.

They consider it the domain of old farts & if anything, is precisely the place where old farts bitch, moan, whine, talk about their anxieties & tell the world what a hard time they’re having.

I think he was probably using FB as a representation for social media, snapchat, Tiktok or whatever it is that the young prefer this week.

I get that. The point I was making is the young are unfairly labelled as complainers or not getting on with stuff - in my experience the older generation making these accusations are as bad, if not worse.

It shows how detached from day-to-day modern reality many of the older generation have become, by not appreciating or blithely dismissing the issues that a younger generation face even from being able to achieve the next stages of their lives.

The next stage of their lives is to do the best they can, for themselves and their own.

I remember “modern reality when I was young. My old boy told me that the country was finished and I would never work. The transition from youth to adulthood has never been easy. Todays young have had so much smoke blown up their arses, that they are largely the ones detached from reality.

But this has always been the case. You should have heard what my father said about David Bowie and I'm sure his father made similar comments. All older generations become out of date and remember the halcyon days of their youth.

I'd suggest that the seventies employment situation was no so good either. And what was unemployment in the 80's. I am a one in ten - UB40.

Even you know the amplification of such opinions then was a mere fraction of what it is now - just not comparable.

It was shit. 4million unemployed, double figure interest rates, cities in open riot.

And of course my grandfather's generation fought in 1 or 2 world wars (before PTSD was accepted) with the 30's depression inbetween.

Not quite sure what the good points of that era were for them but I guess there must've been something.

Even me? I think you're trying to make excuses for a generation without looking at a full and complete picture of every generation.

Not an excuse - just highlighting it’s not comparable.
And I pointed out that my Grandfathers fought in 1 or 2 world wars, do you think anything the youth of today do is comparable? That's life. We need to stop making excuses and start accepting responsibility finding solutions (and when I say "we" I don't mean me.

I don’t see the point of comparing what soldiers experienced in world wars to what generations have since.

Ah

The classic immigrant tactic

British history only starts after Windrush - all that came before has no value.

Immigrants built the UK blah blah blah - its a shame that they didn't finish building their home country first before blessing us with their skills

Are you drunk? There’s no reference at all to what you’ve just vomited.

Leicester born & bred too, & proudly English & British. That’ll make you cry as well.

Of course you don't because it doesn't fit your argument. You are saying that SM pressure is so bad for our kids and isn't comparable to anything before. I'm pointing out to you that many 19 year olds fought in a world war before anything about PTSD was known. Different generations can't be compared directly.

Funny you should say that. I remember watching Bowie on telly doing Starman. He was in full costume and make up. Mick Ronson was in a silver jump suit with collar length blonde hair and eye liner. They leaned back against each other, back of their heads touching, to sing the chorus into the same mic. My old man, who had spent the previous two minuites tutting and rolling his eyes, totally lost his shit, yelling that poofs shouldnt be allowed on TV! Hillarious when you look back!😂

I see Saka and the boys are carrying a scar from losing a football match to Argentina which may take some time to heal.

‘Kinell, Prof, youre on fire! You and me must go to Unite The Kingdom, together next year!
I don't think believing that all generations have their own unique problems and that the younger generation today are spoily and whinge too much makes me a right wing extremist does it? I still think I'm a left of centre bore.
