What you mean he hasn't been snapped up yet, aven on a free after his Leicester contract was paid up? Perhaps he can join his mate Faes in the middle east. But they don't like dogs out there so guess it is a non starter.

Perhaps they believe he's at least a championship level player and therefore can help us for three years or we can sell him after 1 or 2. Also giving him 3 may have brought his wages down to a reasonable (ish) amount for league 1.

Good point. I hadn't considered that. Let's hope he can stay injury free. That said, with the number of like-types we have for that position there's probably no intention for any of them to play 90 week in week out.

If no-one in the championship wanted him as a free, it's highly unlikely they'll want him for a fee, especially when he's a year older.

Firstly, we don't know that nobody wanted him, secondly they may be frightened by his injury record.

It is the same chap. A bit of reading reveals he has alopecia so presume he's had some treatment as he was a bald as Steve Agnew when he played against us under Enzo. Only 26 so hope he can stay fit.
 
Could end up being a really good signing but the three-year contract is crazy for a guy with his injury track record. Absolutely certain it could have been structured better and still given the lad some security.

I read around a bit too, out of interest to see photos, so I knew of the alopecia. Weird that, almost out of the blue, possibly triggered by an injury... maybe, our bodies are weird sometimes. But, yeh, anyway, I was surprised at how young he is. Years left in him let.
 
Looking at the Saints forum, Smallbone was really good in their promotion / play off season under Martin, he fitted in well with that style of play but fell are out of favour with Eckhert who got in players to play his system. The Saints fans are surprised he's in tier 3 but think he will do well for us when he is up to speed and they wish him well. Looks a decent free signing to me so lets be positive.

He is an Ambassador for Alopecia UK which hopefully says alot about him as a character.
