Right, does anyone understand the UEFA qualifying?

I know that the risk of a reduction in CL places caused by English teams outside the top 4 winning both the CL and EL has now reduced – Chelsea and Arsenal would still cause it if Chelsea finish 5th – but is there any way that 6th place in the PL could earn an EL place? What happens to the Carabao Cup winner's place in the third tier competition if Man City win it and the PL? Do the FA Cup winners still go straight into EL groups stages? Does 5th place in the PL also still go straight into the EL group stages?

Carabao cup goes to the League.
Probably Spurs best chance of Europe is the League Cup still.

Normally it’s top 4 into the CL. The 5th place automatically gets a EL place. If the winners of the FA & League cups are outside the top 4 they get a EL place each. If not those places go to the 6th and/or 7th teams. We can only have as a country 7 teams in Europe. So it’s 4/3 or 5/2 if a non top 4 place wins the CL or EL.
Sorry Filbo but what’s the 3rd competition? Is it happening next season. I thought it was only another mad idea from UEFA.

Does the fact that Chelsea or Man City are going to win the Champions League add a CL Place?

If we lose to Chelsea in the FA Cup and they qualify for the CL through winning it or by league position - do we get the EL place if we don't qualify through league position?

I just hope we beat Newcastle and finish 3rd the permutations are horrible.

Top 4 qualify for the Champions League.

Also the winners of the Champions League and the winners of the Europa League.

Each country can have a maximum of 5 CL places.

If a team who wins the CL or EL finishes in the top four nothing changes. If a team who wins the CL or EL finishes 5th or below in the Premier League we get an extra place.

If both the winners of the CL and EL finish 5th or below in the Premier League then 4th place misses out and enters the Europa League.

We usually get 3 Europa League places. One to 5th place, one to the FA Cup winner and one to the League Cup winner. If a team wins one of the cups and also finishes in the top 4 their EL place goes to the 6th, or 7th place team.

I have no idea if this changes with this new 3rd rate European competition.

So for us we need Villarreal to beat Arsenal and we’ll be safe in the knowledge that a top 4 finish will earn us a Champions League place next season. Otherwise it’ll be squeaky bum time sweating on one of Chelsea or Arsenal losing their European final, or Chelsea finish 3rd or 4th in the league.

Or we smash it and finish third.
