True, but the possibility - however remote - that some of them could have been saved if the helicopter had landed differently and not been engulfed in flames adds a new layer of heartbreak to this story. It's still so painful to even read about it.
 
I went down there on the Sunday morning. People were just starting to lay flowers and shirts and scarves near the Club shop.
All you could smell was a petrol smell all over the whole area. I still remember that smell like it was yesterday.

Six other helicopters were found to have the same fault afterwards. Tragic luck of the draw that it was Vichai’s that found it.
 
Susan Whelan has correctly been much-maligned for her performance over the past couple of years, but credit where credit's due – there's some good words at the end of the Beeb article.
