I think a lot of the problem is with the testing procedures. My mate got it 10 years ago and it was only because he insisted on having tests that they dixcovered it, he had an op and fingers crossed he is ok but still has a few issues in that area.
I spoke to my doctor about it although i have no symptoms, she said the test can thtow up a lot of false positives and you can have an invasive op when it is not needed.

Its ridicules' that it effecting men at a relatively young age my uncle died a couple of years ago aged 97 and I remember his doctor saying his prostate was not enlarged. After a water infection mine enlarged and has never been the same since. I read the other day 4 out of 5 men lose their sexual urge after a Turp. Maybe you guys know better?

Didn’t affect me at all. But don’t take that as a recommendation.
But when it gets to the point that you can’t pee it becomes an emergency with all sorts of bad side effects. Dutasteride shrinks it by cutting its blood supply down. Has your doc not suggested that?

That’s a bit misleading. Urologist consultants won’t operate unless the alternative of not having one is more dangerous. Whatever they recommend it’s your decision whether to have surgery or not. The point is early diagnosis and the false positives info can put people off.
PSA tests are only the start of a battery of tests to hone in on the problem.

Don’t be put off by it.

The side effects look worse than the symptom ? Says may increase the risk of high grade Prostate cancer.

Water infection can be difficult to completely cure and can exist for a very long time at a low level after a course of anti biotic seemingly has cleared it up.
That can continue to cause problems, get yourself rechecked for a UTI if you’re still having pissing issues would be my advice.

Trust me RF, you don’t want a not being able to pee emergency it can cause Kidney damage, sepsis, bladder damage not to mention the pain. A catheter is then the answer and that’s no fun plus you then join the waiting list for a TURP whilst walking about with a bag tied to your leg. Dutasteride has no noticeable side effects after 10 years or so for me.

At the moment I use a disposable catheter four times a day, which although a pain means I use them when I need too, it totally empties the bladder so no infections, no getting up in the night and I will never pee the bed no matter how old I get. I am not trying to sell them as a plus but I am trying to shrink the prostate naturally as I have little faith in doctors. [my surgeon said the original catheter is the cause I cannot pee without one now as it was kept in to long] apart from peeing everything else is normal, Most of the men in the ward with me had their Prostate or bladders removed. I had a biopsy to please the family and that was all clear so I am not complaining, I wish everyone on here the very best, do your pelvic exercises and fast on occasion. watch what you eat and drink to guys.

Update
Just seen the Oncologist and my PSA is stable so that's good news. She didn't seem unduly worried about my Lymphocite reading but is sending me for more blood tests to see how NHS numbers compare to private numbers. She'll decide what need to happen then.
She said the reduced number could be down to a virus I may have had over winter or stress.
I work on HS2 so probably/hopefully it's stress related.

Didn't know you were involved with HS2 Hackers. That might explain a lot. Hasn't our favourite "I'm Not Farage" by-election candidate Count Binface dubbed it FFS1?
