Potato Time Again

Just off to the garden centre to buy the seed potatoes for this year.
Start to chit them in a couple of weeks time.

When the rain stops falling over here that it our first job.

Tried to dig the trenches yesterday. A mud bath. And now we have another week of rain. Maybe next year.

Never heard of them Blue City. Normally grow Desiree.
Just googled and Sarpo Mira are red like Desiree.
How good are Sarpo Mira - compared to Desiree?
Desiree are superior in taste other than being blight resistant I didn’t find Sarpo Mira that tasty decent yield though

Going to have another go at planting this weekend as the lake has finally dried out.

Have got two of the grandkids tomorrow. Taking them up Allotment and plant this year's selection. Cara.
Not done them before so should be enjoyable.
Greenhouse seeds will no doubt get watered to death.
So what.

Left it a bit late this year and my local garden centre had been decimated - best I could do was Valor as a main crop. I'll be sticking them in next week. Apparently chitting doesn't make much difference with main crops, although I have always done this in the past - we'll see

This year my seed potato selection is Aron Pilot (Earlies), Marris Peer ( 2nd earlies), Desiree ( Main ) and Anya.
Earlies and 2nd earlies planted last week, will leave the others till end of the month, when hopefully it will have rained !!!

Valor are a good main crop D with a very good yield when I grew them 2 or 3 years ago.

Had the grandkids yesterday off up the allotment, took up one root just to see how they are doing. 22 proper size spuds, gave them the lot. Well worth it. Not a mark on them either.
