Neil Lennon in a spot of bother...

The Fenians staged an unsuccessful revolt in Ireland in 1867 and were responsible for isolated revolutionary acts against the British until the early 20th century

I know this from school.

The Fenian's invaded Upper Canada in 1866, with the intention of conquering the Dominion and gifting it to the United States.

They were promptly arrested and the US government was informed that captives were going to be towed out into the middle of Lake Ontario and left, would the US please take charge of the 'terrorists'. This they did.
In the middle of the night, an American schooner hooked a towline to them and ferried them back to New York and threw them in jail.

Upon their release from prison, they invaded Quebec. After shots being fired, they disappeared and no-one appeared to know who they were.

In 1871 they meant to invade Manitoba, but having a poor sense of geography - attacked a Hudson Bay outpost in Dakota. They were arrested but released without the charge of 'invading the United States'.

a) Without direct reference to the later (19th/20th C) organisations it's fenian, with a small 'f' - their cause should not be dignified by capitalising it.

b) You are right. Originally they were a mythical band of 2nd C warriors. But that is folklore. Gerry of course doesn't know that. He thinks history began either 800 years ago or 400 years ago. (He's somewhat unclear as to exactly when and to help himself to remember he's on a course of Baileys.)

c) They are an unrecognised and unofficial group committed to the overthrow of the British Crown, which is an officially recognised nation state. They are therefore by definition, terrorists.

In a nutshell.

BLUE ARMY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's Fenian with a capital F as that is correct grammar.
They were not around in the 2nd C that was the Tuatha de Dannan and the Fir Bolgs
The very fact that you know of them means they WERE recognized
One mans terrorist is another's revolutionary
Apart from that, you are reasonably accurate.
God save Ireland
