“Man of the people”

You're on a hiding to nothing if you expect politicians to starve to death in order to prove that they are somehow virtuous or genuine.

Perhaps it's just me, but personally, I couldn't give a toss what someone earns. I'm more interested in what they stand for and whether they are genuine.

The earnings thing, for me, is only problematic if they've been preaching against earning money... And preaching that as a way of getting power, Or if you can see that they've been bought by some interest group and that it's the money that's driving the policy.

I'm just not jealous of people when it comes to money.
More that NF rails against the ‘elite’, when his background & even his current situation is ‘elite’.

When someone earns that much outside of the job he’s meant to do (which is be a productive & responsive representative for Clacton), I’m guessing the money he earns for being an MP is just ‘pin money’ & as such he doesn’t need to apply himself to the role at all.

MPs shouldn’t be allowed 2nd jobs - that’s it.

It depends what you mean by elite. I imagine that the meaning has morphed and we both have different opinions.
You know my opinion on Farage: I quite like him in some ways, quite agree in some ways, but the fact that he was prepared to do deals with Boris, especially the last one, means I'm not at all sold

Much better than the fake working class, can't punch a punchbag, smarmy **** in charge though. 🤣

There's 650 MP's why do the BBC have a fascination with him ?
Farage is not the first wealthy MP neither will he be the last.
And if he's done nothing wrong then why was it even worth publishing ?
Perhaps it's a good thing for the focus to be on him & then eventually on all MPs (I hope we broadly agree that none of them should have 2nd jobs)?

There is no way anyone's focus would be on being an actual MP for their constituents, if they are earning more in 1 month as a TV presenter, than as an MP annually.

NF's work ethic as an MEP was questionable at best & unproductive at worst, & now it seems he's happy to repeat this as an MP.

Even one of his company's own MPs (in his party-hopping days) said MPs shouldn't undertake the role if they needed a 2nd job. So what's changed?

To put it simply he did fuck all when he was a Euro MP and proudly announced he didn't want to come back to this place (Clacton) every week before the election yet the fools voted for him.

Can't hold surgeries over fears for his safety.

But can do random photo ops in pubs.

Stands to reason.
He wouldn't turn up randomly for a surgery would he, especially when the nut jobs know exactly when he'll be there and could attack him.
The deaths of David Amiss and Jo Cox was 2 deaths too many whatever your persuasion is.
There's a lot of emotion and bitterness in politics but it's a sad day when people can't speak freely and without fear of being intimidated or physically attacked.
