Lee Rigby Killer

At approx £60k per year, that's £4m (with a bit for inflation) that could be better spent elsewhere IMHO. Plus it removes the risk of the caaant spreading his poison to any gullible sods who might encounter him during that 60 year stretch.

Good point. I’d think the money’s well spent as a deterrent to similar more weak willed people but the second points a good un

That's where, I believe AFC and I agree. If you're a radical you're in a purpose built prison and ideally in total isolation for 24 hours a day.

Is it illegal to send them to a prison in former soviet countries?

I do not approve of solitary confinement, but free association should be out of the equation.

Association with like minded individuals who are also in for life is fine.

Solitary confinement seems barbaric to me but with free association currently allowed, we have to find another way.
'Association with like minded individuals who are also in for life is fine' on the condition that life means a whole life sentence?
Does that also mean they have no direct contact with the outside world?

There are details that would need to be worked out but in essence I am thinking of a unit for 'whole life' prisoners only, who associate in the normal way subject to security. Visitors to be allowed with enhanced security, perhaps a US style glass screen and phone type system.

To be honest hackney, as a generally law abiding person, these issues do not affect me so I really have not thought much about them.

Somehow the mood has shifted in this country from a principle that it‘s more important that an innocent person is not punished for something they’ve not done to a desire to have an identified culprit to vilify even if they may be innocent.

How would any problems with prisoners mixing with other people during their sentence be sorted out by putting a glass screen between them and their approved visitors, or making them speak by intercom? I don't understand.

Safety primarily, both for the visitor and to eliminate any possibility of contraband. Not totally sure, as I said, not something that I have thought about much.

It also means that contact with the outside world could be monitored if it was considered necessary.
