I know one or two ex refs on here get a bit sensitive about criticising Refs but what deaf hook was Lee Mason doing for the Brighton free kick.
In his first game back after being demoted to the championship he is having a mare
He blew his whistle Dunk shot,he blew his whistle again and it went in and he then disallowed the goal.!
Never seen anything like it, Feckin useless twat

Utter shambles by Mason. Just bin the idiot. VAR is a big enough issue already without useless Refs contributing to the debacle.

As an ex Ref I must say that the standard in the Premier League is shocking, Lee Mason was rightly demoted and today proves just why, the team awarded the free kick always took it quick if they could take advantage and there was never any of this waiting for the keeper to waste a bit of time. VAR is a feckin shambles as well... 👎

Also an ex Ref who rarely criticises but Mason just panicked with that Dunk goal and like as been stated should have been left in the Championship to upset our dear neighbor's!

Welbeck takes the pen hits the post and then touches it again, Free kick for two touches which is correct
Lee Hendrie and the commentator both said "dont know what the free kick is for ,perhaps offside " 🙈

Thick feckers
I noticed that too

Just heard Graham Potters after match interview " Lewis Dunk asked the Ref if he could take the free kick quick, he said YES and blew his whistle "

If he has blew the whistle it has to be a goal!

Lost the plot !!

No the problem was he then blew the buckin whistle a second time.
He then had to disallow the goal as he had effectively stopped the game

He blew the second time because he believed he had bucked up with the keeper still setting up the wall. Then Brighton complain, and VAR tell him to award the goal, so WBA complain, and VAR tell him not to award the goal, meanwhile BT are trying to decide if players are offside and interfering with play. None of the buckers know what's what.

I wondered who the thick Brummie co-commentator was. Lee Hendrie explains it all.

The problem is he effectively stopped the game by blowing his whistle the second time (why do that ? )but then gave the goal only for VAR to ask him to look at the screen but before he had finished looking the message on the Stadium screen said " goal disallowed

Total incompetence all round !!

Thick as mince. They had no idea why the ref awarded a free kick when the penalty taker was first to the rebound off the post before another player had touched it. They hazarded a guess it must have been offside. Unbelievable, Jeff!

I once ref'd a kids' game. Under 13's I think. Half way through the second half a defender rearranged a forward's cheekbone with his elbow and a big fist fight ensued. Game abandoned. Police got involved. I never ref'd again. One of my proudest moments. In my defence I'd point out there appeared to be an agenda from earlier unfinished business so it was always going to go tits up.

Kids football is tough to Ref, the parents expect so much from the kids and I’ve had several run ins with them...

Been there done that.
In my first year refereeing I was handed a division 3 league game between two teams from the same town.
What I wasn't told was the previous Christmas there had been a punch up between them in a pub and that all ended up in court.
I sent five off in the match, one in the first minute.
Another bloke got a two year ban for shoulder charging me after the game.
It made me as a ref

I'd only run the line a few times, and ref'd a couple. Not many proper refs so as often as not a dad got the job. At the time I was still playing so I was (wrongly) considered more "relevant". Or maybe they knew I'd got a pair of boots and would last 90 minutes. They found out they were only half right.
