Very true I’ve worked with a few of these skilled operators over the years. Some Council workers don’t seem to worry about the looking busy bit either .....

This is true, something of a shame although council road workers are looking for apprentices to carry on the trade.

Having worked in a local authority for over 25 years I can reassure you all that the practice is far from being a dying art

and likewise - I didn't even bother to look busy, no one else was and this was even after the workforce was drastically reduced following the financial crash.

and then they gave me a big fat pension
