Yesterday it rained
Like the day it Rained
When it poured on our wedding
Yesterday was promised
Again in the rain
Our love vows
Echo
Echo
Echo in the drops
That drum
Each drum from heaven
On my face
Yesterday I loved my bridegroom
Today I love my husband
I swear this to the universe
To the stars and my maker
Thank you

Without question, I would prefer to share and promote the concept of people opening up their hearts here. We want to create something very special in a community that has had a record for depravity, although we see clear signs of people halting, contemplation and possibly seeking redemption? I will though, without question, defend my good lady wife. She is a very talented lady.
Why not encourage others to write instead of criticising?

The Carrot. Verses in the tenor of Thank You.

He pulled a carrot
Ripe from the earth
From nature's flesh
Of mud wet with worms
He pulled out a carrot
From our little patch
And into our warmth.
On the kitchen table,
I held it
with the magic of thyme
And spuds we loved
Vegetable soup
With salt, pepper and
Cream
Thank you

It rained on the day I got married.

Got married
Got too pissed
Got some love
Now just wrist
Your honesty here is palpable, as is your disappointment. Thankfully, tomorrow you can write another line, and if not tomorrow, then the day after tomorrow. The future is a forgiving place.

Bill please respect this forum, our need to create a hush in a loud, clamouring world of grasp and brash. Please also respect this thread. It is a thread of positive, creative expression. Why not post this message on a louder forum and I'll do my best to ignore it and not get involved.
Thank you.

Why would you choose to ignore it?
Are you a happy clapper rather than CofE?
We do not wish to get sucked into debates with people who enjoy provocation. We do not wish to become targets for the abusers, because this just creates a negative spiral. We understand now that when we respond, in genuine good faith, that we are in fact, encouraging 'the piranhas' to all nip in and take a vicious chunk out of our goodness.
I will appeal again to the rules of this new site. This is a quiet area. We wish to maintain it. On a personal level, I believe that this is the best thing that could ever happen to Bentley Roof as it at last gives us a chance to make a real connection, to help and, yes, to bring people closer to our spiritual values.
I am a decent person. Therefore it goes without saying that I will abhor any kind of abuse, especially of children. But for the pure deep bones of my existence, I fail to see why I, or my wife, are the only ones who are being asked to confirm something that should 'go without saying'.
Now please, if you want to continue this subject, I suggest you post it elsewhere. You may even criticise me if you wish, but please do not do it here. Thank you.

Hello friends
We hope that you will be brave, be inspired and share with us your poetry. And talking of inspiration, here is another classic from my thoroughly talented, most-perfect wife. Again, from her collection of 'Verses in the tenor of Thank You'.

Panic Attack

In the silence
Of the wild dark
The light switched off
Staring out from my bed
Into the speckles of night
My mind is stolen by a sleek
Tiger
Running then Prowling
Through the grass Ripples
Supple, shimmering
Silver and black
Out there where
I fall into traps
Panic!
I close my eyes
And breathe
Breathe
'Don't go no further.'

I turn, smell the egg
Humming odour of
My Husband
I cuddle the slumbering
Hunk of my man
He breathes too
Peacefully
Thank you.

You're a disgrace for writing that. At least, that was my initial reaction. I was angry. It is a despicable thing to write. But then I challenged myself to try to be sympathetic. It lead to a read up of your other messages on here, and so now I sympathise. I don't believe life is easy for many people without a belief. And I see that the laughter that you throw at me and my wife, many others throw at you.
I imagine that you embrace this with some kind of loathing. Hence your despicable username.
But don't be afraid.
Why not share with us the emptiness of your current experience? Let us hear about it, understand it.
Let us help you.

I'm glad to hear that you 'believe'. We'd be very interested to take this conversation further. Please tell us a little more about your belief.

Hey bro. I believe organised religion is a means of social control. We're just on this earth for a short period of time, then we die. That's it. There's no afterlife or reincarnation.

Religion may be many things to many different people. Certainly, there is an element of self-control, and with that, an element of individuals exercising that control within a social setting, but this is nothing new among people. Call it 'good manners' and you'll have hit the nail on the head. Call it 'chivalry', and again you'll have hit the nail on the head. Even among the plastic, money-laundering principles of football, we find codes of behaviour. It seems that there is nothing much that humans do socially, without an element of conforming to some sort of code of behaviour. The only two questions I'm left with are then, is the main principle of religion 'social control'? For me it isn't. The next question, are the codes of behaviour stemming from my belief positive? Yes, yes. Yes they are.
Would you be interested to hear of evidence that suggests there is an afterlife?

Ay up bro.I'm not talking about self-control, it's control of the masses. Some bloke in a dress telling people what's acceptable and what's not. You don't need religion to have morals. How did non-religious societies have any sort of moral/behavioural code? Show me this evidence of an afterlife.

Thank you for replying. I'm very happy that you're being honest about this. It's abundantly clear that people on this site are beginning to tack in the wind and face a more positive destination, albeit with a fear of letting themselves admit that this is happening. But in getting to grips with what you have said, I'll say the following.

'You don't need religion to have morals.'
That is part of what I said to you. I mean that it doesn't matter what people do as a social group, a code of morals and behaviour always comes with it. People will ensure it, create it. We cannot escape this. It's part of social cohesion. Some say that this comes from a higher power, others that it's encoded in our DNA. But we all must admit that whatever the source, it happens.

'it's control of the masses'
If an idea becomes popular on a giant scale, and social group happens to become a 'mass', then yes, it's inevitable that thing, whatever it is, will wield an amount of 'mass control' with it. We cannot avoid creating mass groups, therefore the only question you need to answer is whether or not you agree with the moral codes being encouraged by the mass control.

'Some bloke in a dress telling people what's acceptable and what's not.'
Boy George? John Lennon? Nicola Sturgeon? The talking heads on TV? The fashion people telling you what's fashionable? The latest word that's now considered taboo. How do you think moral standards evolve without someone preaching to others? People have always preached to others. You can't escape it, whether you like their clothes or not. Again, the only question you need to ask, is whether you agree with this person.
But consider this.
You Club Book, are telling me what we don't need.
What you feel isn't acceptable or needed. But aren't you a little?
Aren't you in fact, preaching a little to me?
I will start another thread about the evidence of the afterlife.

A Bentley Roof poem.
A poem written some years ago. It reflects a moment in time when we were first tasked by our congregation to deal with online communities. We were given a Teddyboy site and some bright spark offered us Bentley Roof.
Being a traditionalist, I prefer my wife's older style. There's a dynamism here. It reminds me Tennyson's Charge of the Light Brigade.

CALL THE LOST ONES HOME!

The spirit is strong
We all agreed
To fight online
And so to teams
Two tribes were given
To hold out hands
And call all the lost ones home!

We took them firm
And held out hands
A bleak bad Roof
And greasy Teds
One foot balls
T'other pink shoes
We called the lost ones home!

This was our lot
To convert and fight
To bring succor too
To those poor mites
And my hubby dear
Made first contact
He called the lost ones home!

The rock dandies dally
They want our 'pics'.
But the yobs don't blink
They lob oral bricks
I go bed sickening
What have we done?
In calling the lost ones home!

But hubby is firm
His forearms rock
He says don't worry
When the front door knocks
In his hands thrust
My faith-based trust
We'll call the lost ones home!

Brother John, I need to have a quiet word. I think we're alone so I'll speak freely and without fear or favour. If I am able to save even part of you it will have been worth it.

BroJo, I have studied your posts deeply and I see the decadence, I see the wretchedness of your mind. The true desires of your putrid soul are laid bare for those able to decipher the none too subtle code that you employ. I cannot let you continue in what appears to be an abhorrent quest to gain the trust of the impressionable innocents here, of which you know there are many. If I may, I'll present the evidence. Please do not take it the wrong way ( I know you like taking it in a variety of ways but I hear that the wrong way is a particular favourite of yours).

I'll start with the avatar: BJ. There it is: big and bold and in your face. Before you write a word you subvert this very room and all it represents with this sordid icon. I cannot let this go unnoticed.

The depravity continues as you write of "deep bones of my existence". You are no Jean Paul Sartre Brother John. We can but hazard a sorry guess at what was getting boned.

Finally: "I prefer my wife's older style"? I feel your pain for a bygone era of lustful cavorting but we don't want to know. It's an unedifying image. Cavernous and wet, I know you reflect fondly on those potholing adventures of your courtship years. But those thoughts should not be shared Brother.

Clearly you will be shocked that your plan has been rumbled so quickly. However, I have the utmost faith in your ability to reflect and repurpose your life. May you find solace and a cure for your affliction Brother John.

Oh and give her one for me.

Morning Bruv. No preaching from me, just what I believe. You know who I mean, people like the pope preaching about homosexuality, abortion and contraception. I believe in live and let live, if they're not doing anyone any harm and they are consenting.

I converse to help, to comfort, to connect, to explore. In conversing with others, I converse with myself. I would like each person that reads or replies to make more sense of life.
The avatar was given to me by whoever is in control of this site. I've deleted it a few times, but evidently it amuses the ones with a little power to ensure that I am tarred with it again. Be that as it may.
The remainder remains an attempt at humour, and whether in poor taste or nay, we do find ourselves in difficult times. No doubt humour helps many. I would only ask two things, the first being please do not insult my wife.
The second being to ask you to share with us something of your own experience. Why not converse openly, honestly and with dignity?

'If they are not doing any harm.' 'Harm' as in your definition of the word. No doubt the majority in our society would agree with you.

As for preaching and saying what you believe. As I mentioned, even if you believe that you are not preaching by openly engaging with me on the subject, you are expressing that opinion. Some people preach, some people express an opinion. Both are thoroughly human activities, and I would wager that non-believers preach just as often as believers do.
I have started an interesting thread which I believe points to evidence of an afterlife.
