I'm doing a series of pieces over on that 'other' Leicester forum about the club's promotion races over the years. Thanks Hackneyfox for linking to the one about 1991/92 recently.

Latest one's about 1982/83 - I'd really love to get some feedback about that season - the infamous swap / the surge up the table / the Mercedes incident. Here's the link:

He used to live just around the corner from me in Burbage. The posh houses in a close just off Grove Road. Joe Mercer had the same house before him. Most Sunday mornings you might see him walking the short distance to Burbage Church with his family.

Grove Road in the Highfields area of Leicester was where the Ladies of the night earned their money when I was a kid, me & my Sister Audrey used to sneak out of the house in the early hours of the morning at weekends to listen to the reggae music in the ‘blues’ houses…

The end of that season, I came back from living in Venezuela (as you do) and went straight to Loftus Road to see Lineker get us an unlikely point on the plastic. My memories of that game, other than his goals, was the beach ball-like bounce on the pitch, and the trouble afterwards walking back to Shepherd’s Bush Green. From then on the away games were the best to be at (especially that wonderful afternoon down at Craven Cottage) as the home games got nervy. After the Burnley game, I took my rule stickler Dad onto the pitch for his first and last time, and the people he stood talking to turned out to be Clarets. We then went home to what seemed like a three day VAR review of the shaggers result against Fulham, which fortunately went the right way.
