Friends & Family - The Government Gravy Train

Are you trying to say that politicians are cunts who look after themselves and their own?

fuck me, when did this start happening?

I think it is the industrial scale in a relatively tiny timescale with zero questioning or opposition that is the key part of it.

That it has been going on for as long as there have been politicians is no headline I agree...but the scale of the current theft is breath-taking.

A handy little compilation of some here:

Theft? I suggest you call the Police with the accusation

Giving lots of money to chums to do nothing is always good value.

Shall we start with Track and Trace or are you really that blinkered?

Do you know which western countries have really effective T&T systems?
Last time I read any reliable info on the subject, only the likes of Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan seemed to be having any success. Is it now just a soundbite, or are lots of countries properly up to speed?

It's not the system itself at question here, although it doesn't work, it's the handing of the big fat contract to chums.

Normally I agree with you totally but here’s an alternative point of view for the sake of debate. The government had been criticised for reacting too slowly. The NHS/Public Health England had demonstrated their inability to move above glacial speed, far more interested in procedure than results. The government decided to get things moving quickly no time for quotes or tenders. So they have a choice give the work to untried and unknown manufacturers or give it to people they know and hope they didn’t take the piss. I’m glad I didn’t have make the decisions

So they have a choice give the work to untried and unknown manufacturers or give it to people they know

Two things:

1. They didn't give them to 'unknown'...they gave to them to people they know very very well. But I'll grant you they were 'untried', having no experience of PPE.

2. The tenders werent published...so how could any reputable (or unrepairable) suppliers have bid for them?
Pure and simple they gave them to mates, and mates mates...no matter what their actual expertise were.

Many accounts of companies already manufacturing PPE that offered their services to provide at short notice when the pandemic struck.

In no other situation would anyone offer huge contracts to chum’s companies that had no experience in making this equipment.

But y’know, better to concentrate people’s minds on how footballers celebrate a goal (3-4 weeks ago) & footballers gsving new haircuts (this week).

That's what they'll tell you, that it was all too rushed to invite companies to bid for the contract.

In that situation you'd expect them to do a quick Google, find an expert, and talk to them. That's what you would do if your house was falling down.

What you wouldn't do is ask a mate from the fuckin jockeys club if they fancy fixing your roof even though they've never fixed a roof before, and you wouldn't tell them it's ok to charge 3 times the market rate.

Or maybe you would, if it wasn't your money....
