Fleetwood 4 Leicester Under 21’s 0……

Good to see Seagrave paying dividends.
Doesn't auger too well for our business model does it? Any decent young 'uns apart from those already in the 1st team squad?

Has anyone got idea why nearly every team's U21 team seem to be getting spanked. Was sure it wasnt that way when they were first allowed in this comp

I'm a bit surprised how crap the u21s have been generally. Obviously the different in levels is bigger than I thought it could be. Helps explain why hopalongs been so useless

Initially in this competition our “Lads” would regularly progress from the group stages. On two occasions Leicester were the “Academy” side who got furthest into the competition before being eliminated. It’s not happening anymore for us. Our one win in the group stage this time,1-0 at Tranmere, came as more of a surprise than a credible attempt to progress!

Liverpool,Villa,Crystal Palace,Spurs, and Chelsea’s Under21’s also all got beaten last night, so I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Having said all that, watching a few lower league games lately the standards have improved with some spectacular goals and build up play. We really have to raise our young players standards and think of them as our reserve second team rather than just an academy side.

We should bring back the old football combination when all reserves were properly match fit and returning injured had a chance to ease back in gently. I remember 15000 turning up fot Man Utd once and it gave the young fans a chance to get the feel of Filbo. Family Night Fun was a great introduction for my son.
