Fifty Years Ago Today

December 68. 2-1 win against Man U. The noise as I walked up those steps at the back of the Kop with my Dad was unbelievable, Id never heard anything like it. Dad unfolded the little wooden stool and wedged my against a barrier. The grass was so green, the ball so white, the shirts much brighter than the ones we wore on the reccy. How could our players seem so calm in the warm up with all this noise? I was mesmerised by these people who I had only seen in grainy photos on the back of the Mercury. Bobby Charlton, George Best, these men actually existed and they were really playing in front of me.
This is how it was for me and I see most others on here. Keeping that memory is why I respect any other fan who supports a non glamour home town club.
