Do you ever get to Roots Hall?

I’ve been a few times but not recently. It looks like they’ll follow Bury.

Its not that long ago they were talking about building a new stadium too.

Two or three times, once when Walshie scored the winner, with a header in the last few minutes, then another time when Walshie was caretaker manager, he was wearing a suit. 😲

I seem to recall Chesney Hawkes playing ‘The One and Only’ on the pitch before one of our games there. Or alternatively I dreamt it, which probably tells me something I didn’t want to know about my subconscious…

Been twice. Until I think Huddersfield wasn’t it the newest football ground in England? Looks like another dodgy chairman. Shame if they go. Everyone loses

Either that, or another example of the realities of lower league football.

We went the day we won the league.
The late great Bobby Moore and @Phillthetrueblue were in my car.
We came to traffic lights and wanted to turn left,
I went behind a car but unfortunately it was parked (oops!!!)
Bobby reckons I spent 10 minutes behind the car and he used to great pleasure telling everyone about my error.
Great day out and I still miss Bobby for his knowledge, chats and humour.

Dec 1995 - no manager. Lost.
March 2007 - guest of Southend member of board. Nice pre-match meal and talk from ex Southend player (David Crown). Drew. Helped to keep us up.
April 2009 - one of best days out ever!

Think the Chesney Hawkes gig was March 2007.

April 2009 was a great away day.
Pic somewhere of us near the front with a flag.
Didn't it all kick off a bit in the home stand to our right during the second half? I remember there being a melee and when I glanced over I recognised somebody I was at school with in the thick of it, windmilling punches. It wasn't massively surprising - he loved a scrap a primary school and later spent some time in prison....

Been to all of our games there so that will be 6 times. First one was my favourite and at the other end of the scale there was a particularly grim goalless Sunday game that might also have been on TV (as a game even worse than a midweek defeat in my addled memory). Hope they manage to survive but it sounds grim. By the way, am I misremembering that they were the other team (other than Tranmere) who used to play on Friday nights? Presume it changed the season they were promoted to the 2nd division.

Stan Collymore played for Southend against us 1992/93. I remember he played at Filbo when we beat them 4-1. His shot was saved but pushed out to Brett Angel to score their goal. He might have played at Roots Hall when we lost 3-1 to them? He signed for Forest later in 1993.

Before becoming a software engineer one of my work colleagues here (recently retired) was signed as a pro for Southend 1969-71.
Never made the grade and retrained as a programmer.
He moved over here in the early 80's, and lived with the actress rebecca de mornay for a few years, moved to LA and ended up playing footie with besty and rod the mod in their pub team.
I played with him in a couple of friendly matches and he was streets ahead of anybody else on the pitch.

The day we confirmed promotion from League 1. Great day out. Plenty to drink on the sea front before the game, with the usual BR suspects and Cockernees. Actually had tickets in the home end that day. I remember that the first three rows of seats in the away end hadnt been sold, presumably to try to prevent any pitch invasion etc. We got chatting to the home steward and he recognised that we were Leicester and so marched us around the perimeter of the pitch the the city fans and sat us in the empty seats at the front, right behind the goal that Fatty Fryup scored the penalty into. As I recall Mrs wints and I were in all the pics in the press as the penalty went in.

After the game we had a fish and chip supper with Soho and Mrs S whilst Kendal(?) searched for his kiss me quick hat

Wints - I'm afraid I left the Kiss Me Quick Hat that Kendal bought me in the fish & chip gaff we ate in after the game.
Never saw it again.

Early 90s we were there for a bank holiday weekend I think? Anyhow it was very hot. Me Mrs N and one of her pals went.
Never made it to the match. Beach pier funfair pubs all day. From the big wheel you could see groups of City fans outside every pub along the front. At about 3.30 😀

Absolute mayhem in 92. First away win in what seemed like forever. Sunshine, huge following, late goals, pub carnage. One of the best away days I've ever had.
