Chelsea Match Thread

Another tricky game and another team that shouldn’t park the bus, they should be set up to attack us which is what we prefer.

They’re on an indifferent run of form having won two and drawn two of their last 5 games.

If we can get the first goal we stand a chance of securing at least another point against a team at the top.

How great would it be if we could secure another win? That would put us in fantastic shape before our visit to Goodison. I do think we have a chance if we play similar to last night.

Would you give Evans a rest and play Cags and Little Wes?

Southgate in the stands. Another fine display from Barnes.......
Picks Leggy Mount for the next England game.

Worst I seen him play Micky well off the pace and all at sea in front of goal the Vardy we know would have scored a couple last night

Yes everything seemed wrong last night. Completely mistimed a couple of shots. Wasn’t his usual self.

Vardy hasn’t looked fully fit for a while and we might end up losing him for a few games, or maybe his age is starting to play a part because last night he certainly was nowhere near sharp.
It is troublesome because it is probably the only position at the club where we lack quality cover, one solution may be to play Barnes as the central striker.

Evans was brilliant last night & does not need a rest, he’s just one of those players that can keep going & even more importantly he clearly himself does not like to miss out.

You miss his outlet on the left if you play him through the middle. If Vardy was to miss a few games I wouldn't be worried as we have Nacho and Perez to play there.

Sorry, I haven't got a clue what you're on about
BR admitted in the stoke game that the reason he played Perez was that he wanted a striker to help the midfielders to drop deep whereas he says Nacho plays on the last shoulder of the defender.

OK man, I just watch the game these days.

Most teams are scared of Vardy, and leave at least two players deep because of him, with out him they push up and condense the midfield and this tends to stifle us ( Palace away ). Perez and Nacho lack pace and cannot get behind them like Vardy. I do agree the last night he looked unfit and not his sharp self but he is still someone at the moment we cannot replace.

If he's out Perez or Nacho for his place depending on whether we want the striker to drop deep or on the last shoulder.
Makes no sense Daz. Yes perez does drop deeper to link play & is effective at doing it, whereas inheacho may well think he is a “ play on the last defenders shoulder “ type of player, but the crucial point is he is useless at that job, so in turn is bringing nothing positive to our team

I would in all honesty say he needs at least a couple of weeks off, and that means a reformation not only front line but central midfield as well, as teams will now play with more freedom of movement knowing our deadly pace up front isn't of concern, plus it frees up a player for any side

I'm just repeating what Rodgers said

Few players are 100% at this stage of the season. If JV was missing (and he told BR he was OK when coming off last night) ,
a rejig with HB more central and someone else out wide on the left might be tried.
What is crucial in a match so soon after an energy sapping Saturday is that we expend our energy sensibly as we have done in the last three matches when we allowed the opposition to run their legs off in the first half.
Another bonus for us is the goals beginning to come from midfield..
And we mustn't forget that other teams have problems and Chelsea have been in and out recently. :)

Agree more or less with all of this!

It seems it's a season of inconsistency. No doubt the lack of home advantage plays a big part - quite a few teams are struggling to go on a roll.

ManU, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs - they have all struggled with poor runs of form so far. Liverpool have been hit and miss, too. In theory, we could lose two games on the trot and find ourselves in 9th or so.

At the moment, things seem to go well for us but it's a season where any team near the top isn't far away from mid-table obscurity.

As for the Chelsea game, I hope we are not the fall guys, ending their particular barren spell.
