Name me one other who has gone on to greater things elsewhere. As I recall Bassey elected to move on himself but don’t let that spoil your narrative.

Do you mean players who started off in our academy, and left straight away, or players who progressed to the 1st team and then moved onto better things ?
 
We can’t just look at players like this as slipping through our fingers - their subsequent development will have had a lot to do with other coaches they’ve interacted with since.

Like so many other players, their skill level at the time, their application & possibly even their attitude could’ve been an issue causing them to be released.

I’ve just read that Liverpool have signed one of our youngsters from the academy/under 21’s.
Trey something or other, be interesting to see how he develops.
