Burnley Match Thread

No harm in Palace's and Sheff Utd's efforts, but really it depends on how everton, chelsea, spurtz, wetspam and the scallies now do...
 
I’m happy with a point. Dyche could have really twisted the knife tonight, I think we’d have been there for the taking.

So how many times has an opponent actually skinned him then. You were watching him closely so how many
 
Gerry, Burnley did not have a winger as such for him to mark. Therefore he was the obvious out ball from defence. But almost every time he got the ball he sent it backwards. You could see Soyuncu's and Wilfs minds ticking over "We can't pass to him". YLR put it correctly, Rabbit in the Headlights. Thomas was much the better option and would have given us more going forward.

An opportunity missed, as Burnley were absolutely awful. I like Amartey, he has had a rough time with injuries, but he is a liability. Upcoming opponents will have seen what we have seen and he will be targeted.

He was playing in a back 3 of 5. How often would you expect to see him skinned by a side like Burnley? Illogical crap Gerry. Burnley aren’t interested in that - that just bang it in the box from anywhere - the Albrighton strategy. Ricardo mopped up around him all game. If we pass from the back he needs to be able to need less than 60 seconds and 5 touches to release the ball. He was out jumped multiple times (when better placed and further ahead of the ball). He gave away possession multiple times when given time on the ball. Beyond that every pass went backwards. And the pinnacle was his complete lack of natural instinct to support Ricardo or midfield in general when out wide. He stood stunned. Throw ins - he gave the ball away plenty of times and needed 3 minutes per throw. Every facet of defensive play was flawed.
 
I can't remember who said on here a while back that DA makes every single aspect of being a footballer appear so desperately difficult. Spot on, that (y)

Apart from the fact nobody seems able to recall any big errors by him in any game.
He's no world beater but is solid,steady and a st squad player
 
To be honest I would much rather have an aging Christian Fuchs in the team if we are going to play a back three than put DA in the team.

He can take free kicks, has a great throw in on him and is comfortable accepting the ball.

Yeah we know he has lost pace but a good fullback of which we have several could help him out in those situations surely ?

would have made sense, but i can only assume it relates to the positions of the other two. i.e. they probably wanted n'didi central given his unfamiliarity with the position, and i can't recall soyunchu playing on the right side before.

I said nothing about his performance or lack thereof; merely that he makes it look so very very difficult :rolleyes:
