Biggest day in buckin years

Maybe it is a generational thing but for me, the FA Cup was always THE big one.
Partly to do with the fact it was one of the few live matches we got to see as kids, partly to do with the excitement of huddling around the buckin radio to listen to the draw.
Partly to do with the fact the 1969 Cup final was what got me into the Citeh.
Partly to do with Radford and George, Ray Crawford for Colchester, Jimmy Montgomery's save, the game with the three goalies, the White Horse final and the Matthews final in which he wasn't even the best buckin player.
That's why today matters to me.
That is why even one of the twats that bucked the job up by going partying scores the winner I will be joining like minded souls on cloud ten, cloud nine will have been full by the time I get there from Ireland.
Yes, I understand that financially qualifying for the CL matters, but since when did qualifying to play in a competition matter more than winning one and a victory today puts us ninety minutes from doing that.
I am not going to risk Soho's buckin wrath by forecasting a result but will say this much.
As Southampton are a seasoned PL side and have nothing left to play for outside of this it won't be easy.
God Save Ireland and may the best team win, so long as it is us.

I've had my usual roam about the opposition's fans forums.
They are not very optimistic and speak of a win as an upset. Some favour going for a bore draw with the chance of penalties being the best chance. Everyone acknowledges we are the better team.
It seems to me that if we 'turn up' then our better individual and collective quality will prove the bookes right.
And that is what forecasting a result boils down to - assessing whether the effects of an overlong season (if you take Europa out we have already played more than most sides will end the season with) combined with whether the 'party' fallout will be a performance killer or an inspirational boost to a tiring season.
I am backing BR to step up and achieve the latter...

I hope you’re right Oadlad.

Yes Gerry, it is a generational thing, for those brought up making sure you were near a radio on a Monday lunchtime. It is nearly forty years since we have been this close to the final and we are the favourites, for good reason. That of itself is a novelty. For me, today seems huge. And it is Wembley, of all the games in the last forty years most of the really big games like the play off finals have been there too. We may not have a better chance in my lifetime, I am 72. We could have done without Partygate, but I think we can do it, we just need someone, could be any one of half a dozen, to play the game of their lives for us.
