BFR must be absolutely delighted...

... that his masterful deflection strategy has worked so well.
Judging by the horror and outrage on here, no-one at all will blame a failure to win the Cup and / or finish in the Top Four on anything other than the Covid Party that he so skillfully organised, with a little help from his Club Captain.
Job done. Job and reputation safe for another year.

You're right. i bet he was close to the sack at that point for us having such a dismal season again. What's NFP doing these days?

It's fine by me if some want to remain blind to the nuances of good seasons and great seasons, good managers and great managers, etc :)

That's not the point I was making.
But there's an interesting question in there somewhere; would it be classified as 'progress' if we were to let a 5 or 6 point gap slip this season, as compared to last year letting a 14 point gap slip?

That may depend on the result at the weekend but regardless of that we are still punching above our weight for which we should be grateful - this level of achievement won’t last forever

Finishing top 6 would still be progress. Yes it would be disappointing but sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture.

So just to be clear, finishing one place lower in the PL, and losing a one-leg semi rather than a two-leg semi, would be clear progress?

And does your 'bigger picture' include the reduced draw of the club to prospective signings, a second year of missed extra revenue, and the increased risk of current players feeing that they need to leave to play in the CL?

I'm gutted that we can't win the League again. Top 4 and FA Cup, or I'll be disappointed. We are good enough.

Though I'm also aware, that whatever happens, this will still be one of our greatest seasons...

Bigger pictures are the same as the small ones, only sometimes blown up out of proportion. There cannot be many people on here think that BFR does not at times, get the best out of his players or team.
Is that not a managerial failing?

It’s a tough one. Increased points tally would be progress of sorts but it would be bloody infuriating to throw it all away again if we fall out of top 4. Who out there could take us to the next level if we fall short again?
We’re doing well but there definitely appears to be some mental fragility in pressure situations.

Top 6 also includes places 1,2,3,4 & 5. I see it this way the younger players have improved immensely this season for me that is progress. Even if we do get CL sooner or later our better players will leave for clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool & Man Utd because they are more likely in a longer period to regularly win something than we are.

He is getting the best out of the team though look at the performances of players like Maddison, Barnes and Natcho this season and he's finally getting the best out of Tielmans

and that is the age-old problem every manager of Leicester has had and will continue to have in the future

As said before - this is probably as good as it gets and if that is the case, its a whole lot better than other similar sized clubs

A stat listing all the first choice players who have missed several matches at a time would be interesting.
As would the times he has had his 'first choice' side out. The number of back four/three permutations would be amazing.
I know it is a managers job to select from who is available and the standard of replacements we have had to use is the real sign of progress from last season.
You can only get the best out of players when they can play.
