Backlash

At some point there's got to be a proper backlash here, Poland, Italy, Holland have all said fuck that. Yet we're still sitting here scorning people that dont wear masks or laughing at the irony of a covid denier suddenly dropping dead of covid. When you're all injected and still masked and locked up, what then? When do we tell the people that govern us to fuck off?

The pubs and restaurants will be back open for business by the summer, and life will have returned to something like normality. Most people will be too busy getting pissed and having fun to form a backlash.

I mean under this current regime, if it opens up again, all gravy.

Some people have got it right though haven't
they ? I mean the nubile bimbo "influencers" swanning off to Dubai to carry out their essential work of posing in their undies. I might try to drum up a bit of outrage at their selfish behaviour if I can stop staring at the pics in the Daily Mail.

I think vaccines have given people an end point to focus on. If we got to March and the government said, "Sorry folks - we have to extend the lockdown by another six months", then I can see people's patience being tested.
It’s a global pandemic, not sure we can revert to ‘normal’ until everyone has been vaccinated. That a global everyone not UK. Pubs etc may reopen but international travel may well be limited.

Assuming all goes to plan - Hopefully schools should be opening to more groups by April , outdoor activities widened too, pubs should be opening June / July with social distancing . Doubt we’ll be back at the KP till October .
Put that all back a few months if any backlash or Johnson loses his nerve leads to more mixing

Well of course. I was thinking more of people in this country being able to work, socialise, use public transport etc. Obviously travel will be limited for an extended period.

I fear that the authorities have some more unpleasantness in store for us. The lockdown will continue as long as possible, if that looks threatened a 'new' variant covid will boost project fear and the destruction of the UK as a viable country will continue.

If you think that we will be able to 'revert to normal' anytime soon, I think you will be disappointed.

Are you for real afcd.

I'm afraid so sydrock.

The response of the authorities over the last year has been so disproportionate to the covid problem that I believe that there are far more wide-ranging issues at stake.

I have spoken about this many times over the last few months (and been roundly ridiculed) so I shall not repeat it all again.

Well you are sticking to your guns but I don't agree. I think we just need to wait and see what happens rather than recycling the same argument.

Incidentally no -one is laughing at the poor sod who died as a result of his on line radicalisation , just angry at the bastards posting misinformation and encouraging such nonsense in the press -and shamefully in Parliament.

Believe me, the government is desperate to end this lockdown. It really isn’t in anybody’s interest to keep the economy locked down - and certainly not the government’s if it wants to stay in power. As soon as there is clear evidence that the vaccines are working, things will start opening up. Trust me.

Love to be able to ClaphamFox, but that is not my reading of the situation. So, as I see it...

The western capitalist countries are being targeted and destroyed, both economically and socially. The aim is to stop them being able to exist as independent functioning countries, the why is way above my understanding level, but it is what is happening.

I have no idea what the next step is, there are plenty of suggestions, but other than frightening people into compliance, I can not say.

The attitudes of those already vaccinated will be fascinating to watch. Anecdotally it 'feels' like the first doses are starting to make people a bit braver in venturing out after so long locked down.

More likely there is a major health crisis ( which have happened for centuries )

I agree @ClaphamFox which was demonstrated last year when the Government opened up the economy so much and encouraged people out to restaurants to spend a bit of their hard earned despite it maybe not being the best of decisions for transmissions. Also why they at least tried to keep pubs, restaurants, theatre’s even for as long as possible last year.

This new strain has clearly knocked any chance of getting back to some kind of normality any time soon.

My sincere hope is that there is some kind of lifting of restrictions by May so I can be really selfish and get back to the pub to see the last few games of this season.
