Ashes Series

It looks like both teams will be under prepared going into the series given the rain around Brisbane at the minute. We’ve played half a day of an inter squad match and Australia have the same starting in a day or two but there is a lot of wet weather around at the minute.

Will we even get any play in the first test? The forecast at the minute looks mixed with the first two days a possible washout but there’s loads of time yet for this to change.

I don’t know about you guys but I would take a draw in the first test. Get out of the Gabba unscathed and go again in Adelaide at the day/night test.

I'm just hoping for some close, evenly matched games. It's gonna be a long series if we're going to get spanked.

I agree lets hope for rain in the 1st Test, use the remaining 3 days to acclimatise to the conditions and move on to Adelaide.
Not sure we will even get to Perth for the 5th Test.

I’ve had a bet on England at 9/2 to win the series. Pretty sure we have a better chance that the implied 18% those odds have us at.
Australia’s batting in particular doesn’t look very settled at all. If England start well on day 1 of the series they can get in amongst em and have a go at winning the thing in my humble opinion.
Englands batting is a bit frail and relies heavily on Root but I’ve taken a chance anyway.
Historically if England survive the Gabba without going behind in the series they stand a good chance so I’m with you all on the ‘happy with a draw’ in test 1 angle. Let it rain.

I was watching the Aussie BBL today.
They were predicting 2-1 to the Aussies.
They also paid huge respect to several of the England team.

No Anderson, no Broad, and no chance.
Two of our all-time greatest wicket takers, and still at the top of their game.
Crazy, madness, who came up with that decision.
Aussies must be laughing their digereedoos off.

11 for 2, after electing to bat.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

What a joke. I have a feeling they have lost this even before a ball was bowled.

I reckon England will be bowled out for about 150. Aussies 400 +, then a second capitulation, giving the team 2 ' unexpected' days off
I think thats the plan. Doesn't matter if Broad and Anderson play if you can't score a total you can defend. They knew it so thought they might as well have a longer rest.

They have eyes on Adelaide. What’s the point though if we’re one down and get thrashed in this test match?

What price good batting conditions tomorrow for them?

Well if that is a plan then it's a lousy one.
The Aussie batsmen would be genuinely nervous about facing Anderson and Broad especially if the conditions give something to the bowlers.
With those bowlers we would still have a chance to limit the damage and stay in the game.
Wrong team, poor batting and totally under prepared for what is always one of the hardest series in test match cricket.
I have said 5-0, and that 1st day didn't do anything to alter that opinion.

When I went to bed we were 11/2. It's a damning indictment of how low my expectations were at that point that I was actually slightly relieved when I woke up to discover we'd made it to 147.

We just have the wrong ingredients.
A batting line up that's fragile, a team that's had virtually no preparation.
Against some very good Aussie bowlers I fear that this will be a regular occurrence in this series. Still at least they can all bugger off back to the white ball game after its done, and look great cricketers by smashing it out of the park.....

Its a good job they spent the height of the English summer taking on championship cricket rather than wearing some Pyjamas and learning a new format…
