Another cure for Covid-19

Reports this morning that all over-40s will be offered a vaccine within the next month. If so, we're looking at an even earlier return to normality than previously reported...

I like your positivity but fear you are totally wrong. Just wait for the 'new variant' or other nonsense that will be unleashed on us on Monday.

We are not getting back to normality, well normality as it was pre 2020 anytime soon (if ever). We are beginning to see the shape of the 'new normal', no air travel, mass unemployment, pubs permanently closed, food and energy rationing and universal basic income.

One has to try to liven things up... 🤣

That said, I do fear that my assessment is going to be rather closer to the truth than any 'pie in the sky' idea that we will get back to the way things were. Too much damage has already been done and there is more to come.

Maybe the next step will be to deprive those on furlough, or who have lost their job, of the vote?

These are difficult and unusual times, you know the saying about 'difficult cases making bad law'.

In normal times (should they ever return), I would prefer a system where citizens who contribute get to vote, no contribution, no vote.

How you evaluate this is difficult but is a matter of organisation not principal.

Should those who pay tax, but use loopholes to steer clear of paying the full amount - be disenfranchised.

Did you know that nearly half of all adults in the UK, don't earn enough to pay Income Tax.

The top 1% pay 27% of the nations Income Tax. 56% pay the remaining 73%.

Of course just about everyone pays VAT on something. So we all get the vote (y)

The income tax system in the uk is ridiculously unfair and over complex, but that is another issue.

Your points are why I used the word contribute, there are real practical difficulties basing everything on tax, though tax on income is an indicator of your impact/contribution to the economy in a way that tax on spending is not.

There are plenty of non-(income)tax payers who should get the vote, no question, but I said, these are practical and administrative issues and can be worked out.

This country has had universal suffrage for around 100 years and just look at the shower of shite we have 'running' things. I do not just mean the Tories but the whole lib/lab/con, civil service, quangos and public services, the system is fucked and universal suffrage shares a lot of the blame.

Our system needs .root and branch' change, this is just one aspect of what is necessary.

What form of government would you prefer. What would be your money shots, in terms of policies?
In general terms I am a small government, low tax conservative, I believe in freedom of speech, free trade and English Common Law.

In a complex modern society some social provision needs to be made to help those in genuine need, the rest should be required to stand on their own two feet.

Plenty of detail to add to that but they are, as you say, the 'money shots'.
