Murdoch has the government in his pocket and any notion of "free press" in this country is nothing but a myth:

Rupert Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks held seven meetings in seven weeks with senior government ministers last year. The News Corporation heads held private meetings with Boris Johnson, Rishi Sunak and Priti Patel among others between August and September 2020. Leader of the House of Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg also noted that he had an “informal lunch between friends” when he met the pair on 25th September, while Michael Gove was present at a dinner bash on August 8th.

The government is subject to scathing criticism every day in the media. You or I could also post anything we wanted about the authorities on social media without fear of reprisal. There are millions of people around the world who would give anything to have that kind of mythical press freedom.

That is not press freedom as I would see it matey.

Us posting on line is freedom of expression - but says nothing about the grip on our media held by a very small number of very influential people.

I'm not sure the government has any kind of 'grip' on the media. If it did, it would not be subject to the level of criticism, scorn and ridicule that it receives every day in the press. The fact that some newspapers have clear political biases does not negate the freedom of others to criticise freely. Our media is far from perfect, but the suggestion that it is somehow controlled by the government doesn't really stack up when you consider how much criticism it receives in the media every single day.

I agree - I don't think it does - that is my point. It has no grip on the media - it is the opposite. The press calls the shots. You want power, speak to Uncle Rupe.

Oh - and Happy Birthday by the way! How many years ago were we in that pub in Oval on this day??

Do you think the media or the labour gang have been asking probing questions about the governments reasons behind the masonic lockdown? Because I don't.

Sadly the owners of the MSN are part of the globalist cabal and the (their?) media supports this. Any criticism will be, in the main, 'controlled opposition' in that while it may well criticise specific government policy, it is very much on side with the overall globalist agenda.

No because it's not a masonic lockdown. the opposition support the lockdowns and have been critical of the Govt not following the scientists advice and locking down earlier. I would like to see them hold the thieving Tories to account more though on issues like the massive contracts for cronies.

Two thirds of the press are tory so there is very little freedom and it will get worse if they appoint Dacre as Head of offcom, the BBC are already running scared of the government (since Blair) , itv news had a jibe at them the other week saying their news isn't filtered by anyone not entirely true but less restricted than the beeb.* This government wouldn't talk to Channel 4 for a long time regarding it as a bit lefty. * Piers Morgan is the only one I've seen taking ministers to task over covid and apparently ministers refused to talk him for political reasons not aesthetic ones😉
