An apology.

Yesterday was my first game of the season so it was likely we would lose yesterday, and lose we did. I am sorry.

We know in this league anyone can beat anyone and that bit if headroom we had has now gone. The next two away games will be very tricky and Bristol City at home won’t be easy with Pearson coming back. If we get 4 points from these games we could be down in 6th and very much in the mix at a very early stage of the season.

Since 2016 many teams have come to our place extremely defensive and extremely disciplined. In most cases, these teams have somehow scored a goal and ended up winning the game.

Hull did exactly this yesterday aided by a poor referee. They definitely won’t be the last, in fact we’ll see this more and more as the season wears on. We need to find a way to beat these teams, and quickly. An early goal always helps.

They gave us no space all game and worked extremely hard. Their ltitle routine with keeper and both centre backs for each goal kick fooled the ref every time, and us, and they milked every opportunity to go down and waste time. As only three minutes were added, it worked.

Onto us, we looked lively at times and when we were at them we caused them problems. I know it was hot yesterday but we didn’t do that anywhere near enough. We were slow at times and it reminded me of the football under Rodgers last season. We also had little up front. Iheanacho wasn’t lively enough and I can now understand why others on here have been calling him out for criticism. Maybe he wants out. Here’s hoping Cannon makes all the difference.

That said, we had chances in the game and again could have come away with three points. A draw was probably the right result yesterday on balance, we just couldn’t force a goal.

We had more tempo after the triple substitution. All game I felt if we had scored one we would have got a second but we could have had ten minutes added time and not scored.

I enjoyed the day, caught up with a few people and the weather was great. The drive home was decent too. The football was a bit under whelming and the result poor, there is much for Maresca to ponder over this international break and work on.

The reality of this league has finally hit.

Glad you managed to find some tickets Dagenham. Glad I couldn’t go 😂

Southampton found out the realities of this league yesterday too

at last, a balanced view. Glad you enjoyed the day daggers (obviously not the result!)
First we’ve missed for a while due to holiday commitments but I was keeping a weather eye on proceedings whilst sweltering away in Cadiz.
