A perfect illustration of our financial situation

I guess those wage reductions on relegation weren't as big as you would hope.
What a waste of a career.
We signed him for £12m and so probably put him on a decent wage. Even if he had it reduced by 33% for relegation I very much doubt that any club would be willing to offer anything like what we are currently paying him. What level of club would want to sign him in the first place?

Again questions should be asked of:
a) Rodgers who was so keen to get him and displace Kasper
b) the DoR who sanctioned such a contract.

Probably me being naive but whatever happened to mutual consent ?
Leicester would need to accept paying him a decent pay off and Ward would need to accept not getting the full amount in order for hlm to start playing regularly again.
Leicester may have then received a modest transfer fee whilst Ward gets a less lucrative contract elsewhere and resumes his career. The pay off from Leicester combined with Wards new salary would ensure he hardly loses out.
Isn't there a negative side for both parties if Ward just sees out his contract ?
I know Tielemans stayed to the end of his contract but he was considered a key player of our team, even though his performances were shite.
With no agreement, Ward would get his money but won't play for two years and surely as a professional he wants to play ?
For Leicester it's a player receiving an inflated wage whilst they have no intention of playing him.
Surely something could have been worked out ?

Firstly and most obviously it needs to be mutual. With over a year left on his contract any payment this year that results in him getting a bigger payment than would otherwise be the case in 2023/24 would not be in the club's interest if we are on the P&S bubble because that means more outgoing this year than if he stays. And if you are a player who has been evidently happy to not be playing why would you leave for less than the full amount?

As for a transfer fee, any time a transfer fee is involved it is by mutual consent so that isn't generally what people refer to when they say a player leaves by mutual consent. Someone wants the player, the player wants to go, the club are prepared to let him go. But it needs someone to want him first and be prepared to offer him a deal that he would be happy accepting (and that is acceptable to the club, after this length of time it wouldn't take a lot in Ward's case).

It won't do us much good but, frankly, if he doesn't leave by mutual consent in July I'd be either shocked (you might as well pay him up then and get him out the door) or deeply worried (because it would mean we expected to lose at least one of our better goalkeepers and being concerned about not being able to replace them).

I’m not sure Puel would have known a lot about him, my guess is Mr Rudkin signed him and they had been looking at him when Shaky was here.

I take your point about the payment.
I suppose the daft thing is it would be to save us money in the longer run, but the initial payment would fall on the wrong side of the line.
Despite all the criticism of Wards goalkeeping, I still think he would attract interest from a reasonable club, maybe a mid table or at a push an upper championship club

It's not Wards fault
Someone & I suspect Rudkin gave him a decent contract on good money.
They then renewed it in 2021 for another 4 years.
He's hardly gonna say no.
So, like Vestergard no one will buy him as his wages are to high and he won't take a reduction.
Add to that money seems more important than actually playing in Wards case.

Stealing a wage? He, like all players, is part of a freely entered contract.
Have you never felt ripped off when a decorator does a shit job? Or a gardener? Or anyone else that you've freely entered into a contract with? And wish you'd never bothered??

I recall reading an article about reserve goalies, and how some of them can lose the feel for playing competitive games. A bit like boxers who work too much as sparring partners.
Now, if only we could get Ward work as a sparring partner....

Can footballers be made redundant?
