Flat Earther
Debenhams and Arcadia fucked, 30,000 jobs lost and all for a virus that kills hardly anybody.

And this is just the start.

Thinking of the job losses. She was a master at it. This lot are Thatcher lovers too. The Tories love job losses. A lovely barrier against inflationary pressures.

Just caught a piece on the radio, saying that consumer spending is at pre covid levels, despite whats happening on the highstreet.

It's terrible for the people involved but
Highstreet shops just aren't used as often anymore, the Internet has been chipping away for years, the covid fiasco has accelerated the dimise, but it was already on the horizon

I am thinking about organizing a Roofers whip-round for Philip Green and his missus. Apparently they are down to their last 3 yachts....

And the remnants of the pension pot.

Cultural and economic suicide seems like a bizarre choice to solve this? Economies are fragile things, they're the means everyone sustains themself. Virtue signalling on a grand scale?

City centres will need to change. More leisure and residential schemes are the future. Along with reductions in rental rates (to boost independent retail) and repurposing large shop units.

Basically providing all the things, that online cannot accommodate.

The big threat to city centre, is the high possibility of office space no longer being required as people work remotely.

As far as adaptation goes I hope that some of the hospitality and catering services currently provided at volume in city centres will be re-provided (at smaller scale obviously) in more dispersed neighbourhoods (I declare a personal interest as it would suit me very well). Ideally as independent or small local chains rather than the big chains.
