Fooking Brexit costs

You do not pay the VAT in Germany so the only extra you should pay is customs duty, without knowing what goods you have bought, I can not say what the duty should be. Normally it is quite modest, 2 - 10%.

It's not particularly vat it was that hefty customs duty which would have been deducted at source, its the same as if you'd imported it from the US. Ridiculous I expect loads of smaller businesses to go broke.

Well there is a business opportunity for someone to manufacture here what you import from Germany

It's called trade. Sensible governments make 'deals' with their trading partners that allow you to buy product from sources around the world.

The EU puts up protectionist tariff barriers that hurts developing countries who want to export to the uk. This is why unencumbered free trade is best for all, if not basic WTO rules form a framework within which free and fair trade can take place.

And then those of us over here can pay customs charges. Great

Customs charges would still apply under WTO.

No if we had stayed in the Customs Union.

The Customs Union only covers the EU as you well know. We are forging new relationships outside the EU but for obvious reasons they are not exactly front page news.

So far , amongst many other things ,

40% drop in exports
Brits trooping back from the Costas
Key EU workers deserting in droves
Irish peace process under threat
Thousands of small businesses on the brink
Fishing industry destroyed

I wouldn’t care if the EU collapsed tomorrow but it won’t, and while it exists we are far better off in than out .
It’s a disaster for our country and 95% of its people .
“Project Fear” doesn’t cut it any more. Johnson Gove, Farage and the rest of the liars and charlatans who brought this down on us should be held accountable.

Global Britain yay.

Covered. We pissed on those chips when we left...

Which we did.

Covid mostly.

As of the end of 2020, ie before Brexit day, the UK had agreements with 15 nations and trading blocks, about 50 individual countries.

Despite Covid and despite the fact that we have not fully left the EU, (some possible trade deals are stalled on that).
Weren’t a lot of those agreements already existing, but announced as “new” to give the impression of progress having been made?

Sort of, in that some are simple duplications of the agreements with the EU extended to the UK as a separate country, some are new. That said they still had to be agreed and now put into action.

That said, I do not think that it has been a very good performance by the government overall, they are still pretty spineless when looking after the interests of this country, I consider that criminal.
