Arsenal Match Thread

we aint beating Arsenal with no Maddison
We won't beat Arsenal with Wilf and Hamza as the two CMs, Tielemans pushed into a role where he's much less effective and with Amartey, Under and Albrighton instead of Castagne, Ricardo and Barnes. But if we correct those errors, we could still beat them without Maddison.

True, he has been indifferent to say the least lately.
I have seen a few posts on here from people who actually rate him (honestly!)
Just thought he might be a better substitute option than Under based on our lack of numbers.

Truth is we've still got several squad players to replace before we take another step up. Perez, Under, Nacho, Choudhury, Amartey to name five.
Hence why they are squad players, we have needed these squad players this season hence why we are third in the league. Our squad have stood and been counted for the majority of the season.

So what's he hiding then regarding Maddison injury

Leicester will again be without James Maddison for Sunday's match against Arsenal.

Maddison missed Thursday's Europa League defeat to Slavia Prague after being forced off at Aston Villa last weekend with a hip problem.

Asked when he could return, boss Brendan Rodgers said: “We can’t put a timeline on it. It’s about how he feels and how he can recover. We hope he’ll be back sooner rather than later”

Ayoze Perez is being assessed ahead of the game against Arsenal, but there’s no “timeline” according to Rodgers.

Wesley Fofana is still sidelined but is expected to resume full training next week. Dennis Praet is likely to return next month while Rodgers is “pretty sure” we’ll see Wes Morgan before the end of the season as he recovers from a long-term back problem.

Sunday is our third opportunity to do the PL double over someone this season. Important to do so, iMHO

Farewell 2 minute cameo at home to spurtz is guaranteed (unless everything's riding on those 2 minutes)

Man City are pretty much the only team able to have a second string of players happy to kick their heels on the bench - I’d imagine because of the wages being paid.

There’s all this talk of his our squad players needing to be improved upon, but let’s be honest, most of those listed wouldn’t be playing if it wasn’t for injuries etc - hence the reason why they are second string & have to step in (it has to be said in the main, fairly well, considering where we are currently in the league).

Once upon a time, we’d been thankful for some of our second string being our first string!

Before the season started James Justin was in our second string, now we’ll be struggling to squeeze him into the team if we ever get to the point we could play our first 11.

Rotation and serious European/Domestic Cup ambition means "second string players" need to be just like JJ and putting huge pressure on on the First teamers to perform. They aren't there any more to make up the numbers. They'll get game time.
It's a big shift I know, but to compete as a "Big Six" Club then our mindset needs to shift too.

I think our 'second-string players' have improved since 2016, and we should all hope that it continues to do so. The training ground is part of that plan, as should a chunky % of any CL money, if we qualify. I also hope that the injury nightmare from this season will recede, which will improve things as Mistry says above.

I agree but long contracts for "average" signings have hindered us hugely too. It's a very fine balance and doesn't just happen unfortunately. Luckily Top and Co know that....

Kasper
Castagne
Evans
Soyuncu
Thomas
Ndidi
Ricardo
Tielemans
Barnes
Iheanacho/Perez if fit
Vardy
I think Rodgers could change his tactics and play 2 strikers against Arsenal, Madders won’t play and Ünder didn’t do anything of note on Thursday to warrant a starting shirt...
Up the City... 👍💙

I think that’s our strongest 11 at the minute. I’d go with this tomorrow.

The only option I think we have is playing Barnes in the middle behind Vardy and play Albrighton on the left, leaving Ihenacho on he bench. That would at least give us an attacking option off the bench which Rodgers does seem to favour.
