This could get interesting.

What I find most depressing about our politics at the moment is the tribalism exhibited by the likes of Pen 4 .
It used to be that misleading Parliament , breaking the law and huge scale financial corruption were resigning matters . This government are taking it to a scale not seen since the 19th century.
It seems Johnsons band of criminal conmen and incompetent clowns is indeed untouchable . It won’t end well for The U.K. .

Slightly off topic but do you think a test and trace system could ever work properly?
See NZ and Australia.
Sadly it only appears to work when infection rates are very very low . Johnson’s unforgivable dithering a year ago let it get out of control.
Hence the 22 billlion handed out to Tory donors by the ludicrously incompetent wife of the government’s “anti corruption czar” , Dodo Harding was always going to be wasted.
If - come summer - the vaccination has got this bloody thing under control it may become a useful tool in suppressing a winter outbreak.
Other countries( Germany / Ireland ) have systems costing 2-3 million .

Reuters saying total cost of test and trace in the UK will be 22 billion for this financial year.
The budget is 22 - as at October they had spent less than 4

The budget is spread across over 215 Public and Private organisations as I understand it.

The issue is that many people don't understand what the Test and Trace programme covers and don't really care to find out. They focus on the trace element alone

Well fuck knows where that's going then
They could'nt test and trace a microchipped dog
Have you been tested or anyone you know?

I have had 3 tests - my missus has had one - got the test booked and completed in 80 minutes - results came through in less than 36 hours. Garbage performance

5. Until that point, the government must rely on other tools to suppress the virus. The government will build upon the pilots in Liverpool and Merthyr Tydfil with wider community testing, allowing us to identify and isolate people who do not have symptoms but are unintentionally spreading the virus. In addition, the government will roll-out rapid testing nationally to NHS front-line staff, social care and other high-risk or critical settings. This strategy is backed by an additional £7 billion for NHS Test and Trace to increase testing and continue to improve contact tracing, taking the overall funding provided for Test and Trace this financial year to £22 billion.

Nope. Its not £22 Billion as you should well know.

See my earlier post. I agreed that the BUDGET. That's the BUDGET was 22 Billion.

They haven't 'spent' 22 Billion and is hasnt ' been given to their mates'. That's the point that I am challenging.

The issue is that it is clear that many on here think SERCO or some other private sector body got 22 billion for the app and the tracking down of potentially infected. In FACT, the money has been BUDGETED to a number of organisations including many in the PUBLIC SECTOR including the sanctified NHS to provide a range of services. Qi am more than happy to debate the merits of the programme but we need to start from the point of knowing JUST EXACTLY WTF IT IS me thinks

Or better still just get you facts from Terry the plumber on Facebook cos he knows everything

FFS.

Look, all i did was post a portion from the UK goverment covid plan, which confirmed that £22b had been allocated for test and trace, none of us will know what the final cost will be until this is over.

Its worth noting that as of the 13th November £12b had been spent on T&T only, with a further unspecified amout spent elsewhere.

The head of Test and Trace, Dido Harding, said in a parliamentary select committee this week that around 80% of that £12 billion is spent on testing, with the remainder spent on tracing, technology and central support functions.

Contact tracing in England comprises both national contact tracing carried out by Serco, Sitel and staff from NHS Professionals, and local contact tracing by Public Health England (PHE) local health teams. The local work is funded from a different budget, separate to the £12 billion.

Maybe you're right on contracts for their mates, but ....

An interim study by the National Audit Office (NAO) found that Test and Trace spent a total of £5bn on 121 contracts that were awarded directly, without competitive tender, using emergency regulations which allowed the government to bypass normal procurement rules.

A further £1.4bn was spent on contracts awarded under "framework agreements", which allows the government to make deals with pre-selected suppliers.

Great Post. Real facts. Rather than the headline 22 Billion one that is thrown around without analysis.

When this is all over we can all look at the figures and question whether it was spent wisely and best value was achieved (allowing for the pressure for immediate results that everyone was under at the time)

If it transpires that Matt Hancock, for instance, awarded contracts to chums without reasonable just cause then he will have to go and I will happily join in the call for his head. At the moment all we have is headlines and stories written with limited facts

Pen4 mixing up track n trace 22billion budget with the PPE scandal, which is the one where contracts have been given to many 'well connected'
suppliers. Some of these have been found to be either not up to standard or not even supplied. And these contracts are in addition to the 22 Billion

The track and Trace issue is the 22 Billion budget to cover a system that is woefully underperforming, in many cases doesn't work and it is the cost of it compared to other countries, more effective, efforts. Trying to start it up using a new system and ignoring already effective technology before giving up and using the already established technology anyhow cost a lot of time and the ensuing disarray last Spring/Summer

Either of the above shows a level of incompetence to be expected from a single issue party winning a General Election.

i prefer this Pen4. things work better on here when you explain your position, even if people disagree with you. it adds to the debate and the discourse.
your normal style of short snappy sentences just lead to misunderstandings, or having people assume what you mean. (y)

It is clear that it is you that are confused by what Track and Trace is. As I have said it is more than the app and tracking people down but I suspect you think that's all it is.

Please re-read my other comments on this. Please provide evidence of other Countries doing better in terms of cost but dont bother with Eire - that was debunked in January

Shrugs .....

Fact is budget for T n T is 22 Billion and it doesn't work as it was promised in the spring (World beating)

Fact is you were conflating PPE misappropriation of funds with T n T

But that's ok

roll up, roll up. the next batch of contracts have been published, including this nice little earner. £260m contracts negotiated by a pet food owner, who trousered at least £1m of our tax receipts for her hard work.

the covid taskforce are denying approaching her...but she says someone did. any guesses which friend of a friend will be outed in the coming days??
